Working cattle in the heat....

Friday, September 06, 2013

Hi today we did some cattle work..rounded up and pulled the bulls and moved the 2 big home herds together in one barley field for them to graze. Most of the day went fine..the last herd to move were stubborn and we finally got them near the gate and they all waded out into a big slough! I hopped off my quad and jumped right in too lol!! it felt sooo good!! we finally got them all where they were supposed to be and were ready to take part of the afternoon off!

So we changed into swim suits and went to our closest dugout for an afternoon of swimming :) oh it felt so good. Hubby doesn't swim much so this year I bought a couple life jackets and we wore those..he doesn't like me to swim alone so the life jackets make him feel better. The dugout is at least 12 feet deep maybe more and huge. I brought a cooler of beer and snacks so that was fun too.

After supper hubby went to check on the bulls and 3 out of 5 had broke fences and returned to the cows :( So he put them in the corral and fixed fence. Now he is out is way too hot to bale during the day.....he wants me to pick him up in about 1/2 hour...

Tomorrow we plan to go to Moose Jaw (that really is a name of a city in Sask) a museum there is having a threshing day and antique parade and hubby loves that stuff. It is supposed to be cooler and maybe showers so here's hoping!!

Well that about wraps up my day...

Thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin' and enjoy your weekend!!

Love Donna emoticon

Hey Donna - I would like to send you some of our rain. It has been very hard to get up good hay all year!! June was very rainy, July turned hot into August with temperatures in the high 30's BUT then the rain started again about Aug 20th and it has been stormy ever since :( Have now had about 2 inches since Sept 1st. What the heck is up with this weather. You sound very busy but great to hear you are having fun too. Same here and managing to get in a lot of horseback riding. Soon be time to round up and sell the calves and woo! hoo! lucky us the prices are supposed to be better this fall.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend. emoticon
