It all works together

Friday, September 06, 2013

Today I start a new phase of my life. I have been in the weight loss mode for years, losing and gaining the same 10, 25 and even 35 pounds. Keeping it off for a while then going back to the same eating and exercising habits that kept me from having the self esteem I need.
I consider myself as smart as the average person, successful in supporting myself and a few loved ones, so what is a few extra pounds?

Why avoid all the junk food, spend time exercising, cooking healthy?
Well.... I have been sick this week. Haven't felt really well for a couple of months. Flat on my back for two days. Wake up call!!! emoticon

Time to start paying attention to my entire lifestyle. You see, I tend to pick the parts of the healthy lifestyle that is easiest and that I enjoy. Not truly putting forth my best effort. Knowing and doing are two very different things. We really do have to do the hard work ourselves, no one can do it for us. Haven't we all tried to pay someone else to do it, in the form of memberships, pills, gadgets and gizmos for weight loss? I know I have. Spark People is free, the perfect program, and still I am lazy about doing the work! emoticon

My DH and I eat healthier than most people we know. In today's world, that doesn't say much! We garden, we stroll and call it exercise. We work on our place and build and remodel, so we do move around.

I don't like strength training, so I always find something else to do. Not much cardio going on here! We haven't been on our bikes all year. emoticon emoticon

Being sick this week, Yes, DH was sick too, has shown us how our lives will be if we don't step up now. We are both in our mid 50's and we aren't ready to feel this weak and tired. emoticon

Starting today I will embrace the entire program of a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy eating? Check.
Cardio? Check.
Strength Training? Check.
Routine Physical at Dr. Office? Coming Up!
We are not on any prescription meds yet and hope to keep it that way, but the fight is on.

One last note. My blood pressure and sugar levels run low and his blood pressure is borderline high, so this should prove very interesting.
Let the journey continue......
