Motherboard Failure, a Fall and my First Bib!

Thursday, September 05, 2013

I will be on SP (and internet entirely) very sporadically for most of the month of September. Sunday, the motherboard on my laptop died. Fortunately, I bought the Geek Squad coverage a few years ago. That will save me a minimum of $150 I don't have right now, but, in the meantime, I am out of touch.

Tuesday night was the Corporate Challenge walk in San Francisco - my first ever bib event. I was determined not to fall, to complete the course and not be the last member of my corporate team to cross the finish line. I failed on all three counts. I fell shortly into the race (I was not racing, but there were some serious runners and walkers who were). The returning runners crossed into my lane in order to run around some other runners. How rude! How unsafe! How selfish! I caught my foot on some uneven asphalt and did a four point landing. (hands and knees). My glasses flew off and I left some DNA on the street. I kept walking, but I was so slow that the volunteers and the police were leaving before I was. I did not have the route map with me. Even the volunteers were unsure of the route, so I got some bad directions. I ended up walking only part of the route, missing the walk around AT&T Park where my San Francisco Giants play, and I crossed the finish line ahead of two coworkers, but I cannot claim that as a victory because they finished and I did not. I am still inordinately proud of my first bibbed event! I cannot wait to do it next year!

I will have lost some weight by then. Yes, I will! I will be in better shape! Even if I fall, I will complete the course!

Thanks for all of your support. I'll be Sparking when I can.

Another reason to give thanks today - the promise of some OT for next week means groceries and laundry money! I am seriously broke right now and will be for the duration. I am having to jump off the Paleo eating plan and am just getting by. It won't be forever, though...

Sometimes in life we get lucky. Glad you have the Geek Squad to help. emoticon

It sounds as if the organizers were not up to par on the run if you didn't have or get good instructions for the course. Better luck next year. emoticon

Congratulations on your first race! Sorry it had such an unlucky start :( Its sounds like it was very unorganized. No one should be leaving until the last person crosses the line! So glad you will try again!
Now you are making me nervous for my first race, the 5K color me RAD. If there ever was a klutz.. I had a really good fall on one of my hikes with Mom, and now ever time she hears me catching a root or stumbling she gasps, I am going to give her a heart attack :( I tend to stub my big size 11's quite often :( I expect to be at the back of the pack too as pavement walking is quite painful to me and I can't get up a really good speed.
I guess your insurance paid off. I just bought a new desktop computer and took the three year warrantee. I always thought they were a sucker's thing that they use to make more money because it seems if I had any problem, it was always after it had run out. I bought it at Best Buy, but they made no mention of the Geek Squad, is this an extra charge on top of the warrantee or does it come with it? I have actually had very good fortune with my computers, they have never had a major problem, with only one hard drive being fried because apparently it overheated because I was blocking the cooling vents by putting it on my *gasp* lap!! But it took five years before that happened so I had a good run with it.
Hope they get it fixed soon for you.
If your income is so low that you can barely cover the rent and groceries, would you not qualify for food stamps or whatever kind of assistance might be available?
Hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel for you.

Ow, that fall sounds awful! You should be proud, and you have a great attitude about giving it another go next year.

I feel your pain on the expensive food and no money front. I'm not even following a Paleo diet, so I can't imagine how bad you have it! Hope that OT goes by quickly!

    Have a good night.
