Thought and Prayer for Thursday, September 5, 2013

Thursday, September 05, 2013

Money is not the only way we can be rich. We can be rich in spiritual gifts. We can be rich in wisdom. We can be rich in mercy. Being rich in mercy means to show compassion to others. It means to love and care for others in the way God wants us to. It means that even though the other person doesn’t seem deserving because of the actions or attitudes, we still love them, help them and pray for them.

Ephesians 2:4-5a “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.” (NLT)

Dear Lord, we pray You will show us the right ways to be rich in mercy. Our human nature is to believe that people should pay for their wrongful attitudes and actions; however, You tell us to be rich in mercy. Help us to love those who are hard to love. Help us to forgive those who are hard to forgive. Help us to reach out to those who are withdrawn and distant. Bless us today with Your mercy so we can be rich in mercy toward others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

When we have a compassionate heart toward those who are not so compassionate, God will help us to help them.

When we are rich in mercy we can show compassion to those who are in need.

Being rich in mercy requires we know God and know Him well because we will draw from Him what we need.

Instead of being resentful of those who are doing things they shouldn’t, be rich in mercy and love for them.

Our actions should be actions of mercy and love toward others so we can share with them about God’s mercy and love which can give them all they need.

Isaiah 63:7 “I will tell of the LORD’s unfailing love. I will praise the LORD for all he has done. I will rejoice in his great goodness to Israel, which he has granted according to his mercy and love.” (NLT)
