First Swim

Wednesday, September 04, 2013

So today I went for a workout swim. I haven’t done that since I was a kid. I had a free swim pass for one of the local schools so I went in before work. I wasn’t sure they would let me swim so I wore my gym clothes in case I needed to change plans.
Things that went well:
-The swim
-I got my own lane .
-The facilities
-I wore my gym clothes
-The man that signed me in was really nice
-I remembered to take a plastic bag to store wet suit
-Remembered goggles and not clamp thingy
- not many women so room to be ackward

Things that didn’t go so well:
-I forgot soap. I recently changes to a smaller (free) gym bag and had taken my soaps out
-I forgot a towel. Well, I remember the towel, but on my way to get one I remembered my water bottle- grabbed the bottle but forgot the towel. Luckily I had my gym clothes so I tied my shirt around my wet hair and dried off in my yoga style pants (I am awesome and not awkward at all)
- I didn’t take a lock assuming they would have fancy lockers since they are a fancy school, so I had no lock

So overall I was my usual awkward self going somewhere I hadn’t been before. Now I just have to decide if I want to go back or not.

I totally lucked out the time I was there as there were enough lanes for everyone to have one. I don't know if that is normal or not since I only have 1 data point.

I can breath on either side, but am more efficient on my right. Special note on more efficient, not efficient in and of itself, but that is a practice thing. My neck starts to get tired though.

I think I might go again, being that I bought a lock this weekend. :).

    Random is good yup yup.

If I concentrate on my breathing, then I stop concentrating that I swim slow ... and it goes better for me ... which means, like you, I tend not to kick a lot.

And ... I can only breath on my right side....wifey does something called bi-lateral breathing ... which is so weird to me.

How crowded is the pool you go to? At times we have a hard time fitting in a swim because the pool is always so crowded.

    Hehe, you are so funny!

My style is random. Mostly free style, but i pretty much do what ever to work the muscles I feel need the working out. I like to free style stroke without using my legs.

Loren... in my head, you soooooooo rock! I think the positives farrrrrrr outweigh your negatives today. As you do more and more swimming (if you decide you want to go back) you will remember to bring the things you need.

Ok...so swimming ... how long? Style? (I go with wifey at times...she totally blows me out the water...I used to swim a lot ... now I go...and just breast stroke for a bit...while wifey whizzes past me!)
