I am changing my subject, it is all talked out. Thanks for being there for me.

Today I walked the rail trail with DH and he was able to walk much faster than of late. He has been using the gazelle and I am proud of his efforts.
Today as usual there were a number of cyclists who came up from behind and almost hit us as we spun round. There is a lot of road noise and it muffles any sounds from the bikes.

The rules are the bikes always pass on our left. We have taken to always thank the people who use their bell to announce themselves. We often yell after them these days because it is getting to be a hazard. The trail have put up small fancy signs asking for announcements from the cyclists.

Today was a lot worse than usual. We called after them but we have to find a solution.
My friend kept shouting "RING YOUR BELL" some were without bells. I have decided I am going to sew some over our heads Vests and on the back I will paint an arrow pointing to our left.

Beneath it I will paint BELL or YELL PLEASE. Short and sweet I think, I will let you know if it helps.

I am thinking of approaching the Governor with our idea since we now have many rail trails around the state. There is a hope that many will eventually combine so we can walk or bike in safety from cars but not yet safe with bicycles.

My long walks clear my head, I must get back to Strength training but I still have to have my second cataract surgery in 2 weeks time.

I am off to bed, thanks Spark friends you are all emoticon

Great safety ideas for the vests, do be careful.

I think the vests are an excellent idea. They should also put signs up and have some sort of penalty for people who don't comply. They could hurt someone.

Nobody uses a horn or bell around here.. in teh woods near Lake Huron, it is very quiet and we still cannot hear anybody.. We do move to the right though...

Great idea it is sad how rude some people are. I know once we were riding our bikes & a pro biker went by and about hit us we thought just because you are a pro doesn't mean you own the trail. It is meant for every one .
We believe in using a bell or telling the people coming around you. But I love you idea . Take care emoticon

I love the vest idea! I believe all of us walkers have had the same problem and this sounds like a wonderful solution!

I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I love your idea about the vests with signs on them. That should help a lot. Also the Bells or Yell. I'm glad that DH is walking much better too. God Blessings to You and Have a Marvelous Day. Take Care.

I too like the idea of vests!! Hopefully if you do make them the cyclists will pay attention to them!! Some of those cyclists get very intense and go very fast!! We have a few dedicated bike paths here on the roads but most of the roads are narrow country roads with no bike paths and then it becomes quite a challenge to pass them!!

    Stay safe!!!

I think the vest are a great idea.

And kudos to your husband on working towards healing and getting stronger.

Funny that what seems so obvious- for the bikers to announce themselves, and pass on the left, is something that needs to be spelled out!

Good morning Pat! Fred looks really good and I am glad that his walking is doing better.

I love the idea of signs on your back. People do need to be reminded.

Hope today is a good one!! emoticon emoticon

You have a great idea. Even when I walk along the
waterfront here, it is so annoying when bike riders
whizz by dangerously and frighten the daylights
out of you (me too) and I yell to them to ring their
bells too. Have a great day. Glad to hear Fred is doing
    well with his walking. emoticon

I learned something here, Pat! I haven't been riding on trails - just on neighborhood streets when the traffic is minimal - but I did need to know this. Thank you!

Glad you weren't hurt! I am a cycler and DO use my bell! It's posted on our trail. It IS dangerous!

HUGS and proud of how well DH is doing after his hip replacement!

Hey Pat,, here in South Portland (ME also) the cyclists are VERY POLITE !! I guess it depends on the area. They ALWAYS allow those of us on foot (or in my case power chair ) to stay on the right,, while they go to the left,, IF IT"S SAFE FOR THEM !!

THey ALSO are GREAT at saying "Coming on Left". We have NO signs to say this,,, guess they've just learned from each othah.

WISH it was the same for you !! Where are you walkin?

We ahve a problem with bysicles here tool When we are driving in the car they run into our autos or run right in front of us. It's not safe.
    1728 days ago
Wow everytime I've ever used a walking trail they've either rang the bell or said I'm approaching you or I'm behind you which I've always found to be polite... Sounds like you have a good idea... good luck!
