Reflecting on the last three months

Sunday, August 25, 2013

Well it is almost 3:30 am and I can't sleep. The last three months I have had some ups and a lot of downs. I have been cross-training in another department and my physical activity has not been the same. I have gained a pound a week instead of losing or maintaining.

What hasn't been good: I was put on anxiety medication back in April. Between that and pre-menopause hot flashes I don't sleep well. In turn I sleep later and don't get my morning workouts in. I have been eating out more and not making very good food choices.

What has gone good: My son graduated. This greatly reduced my stress and the doctor is weaning me off of the anxiety medication. I still manage to walk 4-5 miles a day.

Changes I need to make: Find something to help with night sweats so I can sleep better. Start getting up earlier to get in workout before work. Make better choices eating out.

Next month (September) I go back to my regular department which requires more walking and much heavier lifting. This combined with the changes listed above should get me headed back in the right direction.

I use Estoven (sp?). It is over the counter and it seems to work for me. They have a special night time version. Also, I have been known to go to bed with an ice pack! Night flashes are horrid - I would wake up just as they started so I completely understand the no sleeping. Hopefully this will pass soon. Keep up the walking! Also, I found sometimes they were worse based on what I ate that day.

emoticon to you :) The last 3 months haven't been sparkly for me either. I hope that all the meds get straightened out and you can get back to a better schedule. I know I am looking forward to a "routine" again :)
emoticon that your son graduated ... is he off to college or work? I think we will worry about them until we are dead emoticon just a mom thing, right?

Take care of you and let's turn the rest of the year around in our favor!

Sorry about the hot flashes. I hear, but do not know what it's like. I was so glad to see you are keeping up with your walking. I am at 3 miles/twice per day. I am beginning to enjoy that time to myself. Congrats on kid's graduation and hope routine at work returns soon.
