Working toward my 1st 5K!

So- I joined SparkPeople's Walk Your Way to 5K program and I'm officially on the end of week 2.

Week 1 was rough to say the least. Even though I've been exercising for 2 months now, I'd never actually walked outside before. So one day 2 of the program I took my 1.5 mile walk to the streets of my new neighborhood.

Big stick in hand (to ward off dogs and strangers), I hit the roads. BUT I think I pushed it too hard to fast. Ended up having shin splints for 3 days that made any walking or even standing almost unbearable.

Thankfully I learned the lesson of icing. And got back on my feet. Today is a new day and a new road to travel. We'll be walking 2 miles for the first time (other than my Leslie Sansome videos).
