Transitioning to a New Schedule

Today is a transitioning point for me. I am now working overnight 4 nights a week from 9 pm to 8 am. I am up tonite so I can sleep tomorrow and work starting at 9 pm tomorrow night. It's kind of a mind bender and I'm not quite sure how it will work out. I am actually a night person so I am hoping it will be okay. I am the Overnight Support Manager for a Walmart store and looking forward to it.

But my challenge now is to have a healthy lifestyle given I am doing 4 10 hr. days (nights actually). My goal for tonite is to locate my step tracker because I know I will be putting quite a few miles in just walking the floors at the store. At least my job is an active job where I will burn plenty of NEAT calories in the process. But I know I will still need to do cardio workouts. And I still need to do resistance work as well. So given the new schedule I will have to see how it will fit into my days. Either before work or after -- I'm not sure which. It's going to get interesting quickly.

Well, I did accomplish some of my August goals. I was going to lose 5 lbs. , to paint a table, to get a job, and to sell some things on Ebay. I only lost 2 lbs. but I am glad for that. I didn't paint the table as the job search and Ebay took all of my time. I'm not sure when I will do the table as it isn't really important to do it right now anyway. As far as the job which was important -- I did accomplish that with God's help. And Ebay has turned out to be very successful as I have sold $769.27 gross! I had a lot of stuff that we don't have any need for. So, while it was time consuming it did help us get through the month financially. All in all, August was okay. Now I'm looking at September.

Considering the new job and new schedule I am making the following goals for September:

1) Give myself time to adjust to the schedule, but start a new routine of cardio workouts 5 days per week in the beginning.
2) Adjust to packing healthy lunches for my job. This will be a bit of a challenge so I need to adapt to a new healthy lunch routine.
3) Continue to list items on Ebay at a much slower pace than in August.
4) Lose 4 lbs. in September! No excuses! With an active job and cardio 5 days a week this can easily be accomplished.

That's it -- not taking on any more goals for September given the huge change in lifestyle. I will be checking in here because blogging keeps my head straight and helps me to keep my focus.

I hope to hear how you guys are accomplishing your healthy lifestyle with your jobs. Any tips on how to do both would be appreciated. This is a whole new and huge step for me.

    Love to read your blogs and keeping up with all that goes on. I don`t have any helpful hints other than keeping it as dark as possible which was already mentioned. Maybe reading before sleeping will help rest your mind and your eyes. Also keep yourself to a consistent sleep schedule....this will help getting into a new habit, I think. Good luck .

    I worked nightshift for 27 years and just turned my lfe around. It worked out really good for me and I enjoyed sleeping during the day. I lost weight when I worked nights cuz I didnt have that night munchy time cuz I was a nurse and too busy for that. I think you will like it as long as you get 7 or 8 hours of sleep

    Woohoo...go you....

    I used to do nights as well....did 11pm till 4am for around 5 years....only 4 nights though....it was enough for me to suffer sleep deprivation as I didn't manage to sleep at all well during the day and sometimes I would get home and get to sleep and my superviser would ring and ask me to go back and do a day shift as someone was sick....
    I certainly wouldn't do it now but I did it then as it was the easier option....

    I worked night for years. Keep a close watch on your over all health and if you start to gain weight.
    I had to work really hard to try and get any sleep as my children were young at the time and awake during the day. One thing that did help was to darken the room so there wasalmost no light and keep it very cold in the room.
