Did I say that I hate the Dreadmill?

Well, I really do. No doubt about it. I do not like that daggone thing!

It is a nice treadmill, I got it for free from someone who used it too often as a clothes rack. My son uses it nearly everyday, good for him. I still hate it.

Seriously, I only use it when I have not much other choice and yesterday I was very short on time and had to do a 3 mile run to stay on track with my half-marathon training. (Trust the training. Just do it and shut-up.) Okay, okay, it is only three miles. I can handle it for three miles. I will suck it up and go run. I dawdled and dawdled to get on it and then I had "reasons" to stop and take a break. Asthma, water, too hot, etc. It took me way too long to complete 3 miles and I probably could have just went and run outside and felt better and got done faster. I was glad when it was over and I did not go a single step over my 3 miles. Not this time, not gonna do it.

I really don't know how to make it any better and I commend anyone who uses them. I did what I had to do and I am glad that I normally get to do my exercise out of doors. I love being outside and that is what keeps me sane.

Tonight I had a 5 mile run to do and I went to my favorite State Park and had a lovely time! Interaction with others, nice scenery, visual stimulation, nice air going, and so on. It just feels better and more of an accomplishment. That 5 miles of running past much easier, more pleasant and seemed to go much faster then that daggone 3 miles on the Dreadmill.

Well enough of that. How do you feel about using a treadmill?

    I HATE the treadmill! I feel like a hamster stuck on one of those wheels! But, for some odd reason, I don't mind getting on my elliptical? Go figure.

    I don't despise it, but it is not my favorite. Three to four miles is about all I can stand, before I get a little stir crazy. Walking on it doesn't bother me as much for some reason??

    I run at a nature preserve five mornings a week and I love it! Nothing better!

    I'm with you. Don't even own one. We had one years ago, and I couldn't see the point in them. Now, I understand if the weather is intolerable, one might be of use.

    I love nature, too. There is this huge tortoise on one of my runs that I see from time to time. I am thrilled like I'm 12 years old every time I see him. The squirrels that seem to know me, and barely move as I pass by. The dogs that used to bark at me and no longer do - they know it "just me again". The other runners, walkers, drivers and pet walkers who nod or wave at me or say "good morning". Just so much more fun getting out there in nature and feeling alive.

    I am with you - although this winter I will be using it more - I have a marathon in the spring and want to be "properly" trained.....

    You brought up a really interesting point though... when using a treadmill you/I RARELY go over out distance by one step - either time wise or distance wise. .... If outside the distance/time varies quite a bit. HMMMM.

    I am an outdoor person anyways.

    I use the treadmill as a last resort, mostly in the winter after a big snow when the streets aren't clear (forget about the sidewalks, half the people in the 'burbs don't shovel their walks). If you want to test your tolerance for boredom, do a 10 miler on a treadmill.

    If I MUST use the 'mill, I'll play with different settings to pass the time. I'll do incline pyramids, intervals, sprints, anything to break the monotony.

    Nothing like the open air! I can deal with treadmills. I used to go to Gold's Gym and watch football games while walking the treadmill. I like the elliptical much better though.

    See I would LOVE a treadmill. I like being outside when it is sunny and warm. As soon as it gets cool - I want to stay by the heat!

    I despise the treadmill as well. I need to make peace with it before the dead of winter sets in. I didn't run much last winter and had a few weeks off because of the super high heat/humidity/rain this summer. I used to be able to run over 3 miles and now I'm barely making 2 1/2. On the treadmill, I can only stand it for a mile and a half or so. There's no visual stimulation in the basement. . I'd much rather run outside where I'm actually travelling somewhere.

    I was unprepared for winter this last year because I had only started running last summer. This season, I want to get appropriate clothing for cold weather and just have to use the treadmill for snowy days.

    I find that my legs don't like the treadmill as much either. I get tired and sore much quicker.... or maybe my brain just gets the best of me quicker.

    I'd rather run outside but I'll have to get used to the dreaded treadmill so I don't stop because of crazy weather again.
