Carb Cycling Experiment - 1 month

Well, one month results from BodPod:

After one month of carb cycling 2x/week (up to 200g carbs on Wednesdays and Saturdays, my heaviest training days) as well as adding more protein and calories to my daily schedule, the results are mixed. I did gain 2.5 lbs of lean body mass (muscle), which was my primary goal since I had lost muscle during the 2 months after surgery. However, somehow (this is weird to me) I also gained almost the same amount in body fat for a total weight gain of 5 lbs.

The added weight is not helpful for more efficient running; however, I have noticed performance gains. My running speed has increased, I am able to lift heavier weights for more reps, and I felt really strong last Sunday night in the first ice hockey game I've played in 1.5 years. I can't help but believe that the additional muscle will only help burn the extra fat off with all the activity I'm involved in, but it is really odd to me that I gained that much fat in 1 month, especially knowing how careful I've been with my diet. I think I'm going to stay the course for now and see what happens; although my focus will probably change now from building muscle to decreasing body fat. I need a follow-up with the dietitian to figure this out, but I will continue to post results as measurements are taken.

    Carol, without knowing anything about the program, I can't really comment on the value of it or what exercises might be involved. I would encourage you to contact the person who is the point of contact for the program to get more details about what's involved. But it sounds like it could be a good thing emoticon

    My place of work is running a program 100.00 for a twelve week program, with supplements. Do you think it is worth it? what are the exercise ideas that go with it?
