I am puzzled- could I be eating to few calories and slowing my weight loss

Friday, August 16, 2013

It sure seems that my weight loss has slowed. I keep wondering what is happening. I have been eating within the calorie range that was given at the first. I have increased my exercise by 90%. I was not exercising at all when I started. Now I exercise 5-6 times a week and burn lots of calories, yet my weight loss seem to be pretty slow. It seems even slower this week.

I chose not to have the nutrition tracker make an adjustment in calories based on my exercise. I am wondering if that is wise. Could it be that my body is needing more calories to keep my metabolism working efficiently. I may have to try adding more calories to offset the exercise. Maybe it could make a difference. I am not looking to loose 5lbs a week, but I would like to see a little more change. I guess I am just impatient.

I have been increasing the length and time for my swimming. I have also added crunches and crunches with twists. It may be time to add some strength training.

I am now taking my Mom with me to swim. It seems to be really good for her dementia and depression. She looks forward to going every day now that I have gotten her into a routine of going. She even asks me if we are going to swim in the morning before I even get finished with my breakfast. I am glad I am not having to drag her there. It is a good break for my step-father. She had really been stressing him out.

What ever happens I am moving on toward my goals. I am not giving up.

I like to watch Chris Powell's weight loss show. The participants have a year to lose a huge amount of weight. In the first 3 months, they work so hard and the weight just seems to melt off ( I know they are working hard though). Many lose up to 100 pounds in three months. In the next phase, most of them have troubles. The weight loss slows down and in the 3rd phrase, they work just as hard but the weight loss really slows down. I am not sure of the why's but it seems pretty typical.

I have that same problem - my weight loss slowed when I added in a lot of exercise. I've added in more calories and hooked my exercise tracker to my nutrition tracker. I'm still losing slower. But I also wonder if that happens anyway when you are dieting for a longer period of time. Keep track of how you feel, your measurements and how you fit in your clothes to keep from getting discouraged. Even though my weightloss slowed, I've still lost inches which actually makes me happy since that is more visible. Best wishes to you and your mom!

Hang in there. It will come.

I remember seeing this pic of weight loss where the decline is not a smooth line downward, but a squiggly line with ups and downs that trends downward.

It could be that you need more calories and it could also be that you are building muscle which weighs more than fat. I took my measurements the other day so when I see the scale not moving I can measure again to see the inches I have lost. Swimming is great to tone your body and you will lose inches. Even if you lose 1 to 2 pounds a week that is great, because the slower you take it off the less likely you are to put it back on. emoticon
