Last weekend was rather emotional. We scattered my friend's ashes in the ocean and then the following morning ran a lung cancer 5K. It was a beautiful weekend, and despite threatening rain all day, it was the absolute perfect evening to be on the beach doing exactly what Ali wanted. I'm not religious, but the way the clouds went away and the sun came out and provided a gorgeous dusk tells me Ali might have been up there looking out for us. And smiling.
I PR'd the 5K by 15 seconds, coming in at 38:17, so I was really happy with that. My previous PR was at this same race a year ago. :) I was also really happy that people who didn't come to the race in years past were there to celebrate Ali and cheer us on this year.
After the race we drove ~3 hours home. I took Monday off to get some stuff done, but I got up and went to the gym for some non-running cardio and ST. Then in the afternoon I got an invitation to meet up with some friends for a 'short and slow' run. So I ended up doing a double workout the day after a 5K. Sheesh. It was, in fact, a slow run - we did 3 miles in 44 minutes - so at least it was a pace I could manage after all that!
Today is a day off. I think I've earned it.
