Back on Track - Day 10...countdown to vacation

Well, here I am, 4 days till vacation and still, for the most part, on track. Though I missed exercise yesterday, I did eat well all day and when I found myself wanting to eat last night, I found other things to do, you know, fun stuff like folding 3 loads of laundry, straightening out the kitchen.. Then it was like DS realized I was floundering, and asked if I wanted to play a board game. We settled on Trouble, and other than the fact that I was getting to spend quality time with him, I have to say I found Trouble, for the very first time in my life, to be not so fun! So I told him we are definitely going to have to re-assess our board game decisions before we head off to our annual beach vacation... (just what I need, to have to add another job to my list this week!!).

There is much to do to prepare, and I have to admit, this is one of those things that I am having a tough time preparing for..as I knew it would be. The beach has always been the highlight of our family's year as we all head up there and stay in the same place...Bob's absence will loom large. The only good thing I can say is that we are, for the first time since we began this tradition 20 years ago, in a different cottage. A plan that was implemented before we knew he would not be here, but one that will make it a bit easier, as things will necessarily be different just because the changed surroundings. Still, it is going to be hard, and I am somehow hoping and praying that we all find our way here..

Looking forward, one of the things I feel the strong need to do is to plan my exercise strategy. I know most people would say what more do you need, you have an entire beach! But I have to be realistic about how well I am going to be able to move on the beach this year. My knees and legs have been giving me all I can handle on firm surfaces, beach sand, is of course, an entirely different matter. So it will be walks out on the street... I'll have to see who I can recruit to join me..and there will be no shortage of possibilities. Back on track..

    Thanks for the tips Sonya.. the ocean water up where we are is often wayyyy too cold and rough to swim in with any consistency. And I do wear a bathing suit, as they have come a long way in swimsuit fashion for plus sizes. But "walking" in the water is possible and a good idea, as it certainly would be great exercise and would be the lower impact you talk about. I think I will put that on my list!

    Swimming is easier on the body (so I have been told). If bathing suits are not your thing a short set still would work? Tell people you just couldn't resit the water even with your clothes on or that you forgot your suit that you spent lots of money on and couldn't justify buying another?

    You just go and have a relaxing time, leave your worries behind.
