Sometimes you just have to enjoy yourself.

Sometimes you have to just enjoy yourself, no guilt. And that is surely what I did this past weekend.
Actually, the weekend started off on Thursday night. My husband and I were home with only our 18 year old daughter and we decided to try out our club's al-fresco pizza oven dining, overlooking the golf course. We so rarely get to spend time alone with only 1 child and this one is headed off to college in a few weeks. No time for wine or food calorie counting - just simple enjoyment of the food and conversation.
I knew it was going to be a good weekend of food and fun, as our older daughter turned 22 on Sunday and her boyfriend came in from out of town....lots of good food and fun. He had his sights on enjoying a Philly favorite, The Schmitter. This is better than our cheese steaks with a combo of cheese steak, salami, special sauce, and a fantastic keiser roll. Yep had to go to the only Pub that makes them; McNalleys. Can't enjoy this sandwich without a beer. So much fun! Sometimes...ya just have to let go. Now, I knew I was going to eat the Schmitter that evening so I did NOD toward good eating during the day.
And then there is more: come Saturday: The boyfriend's parents were in town for a wedding and we decided to do the "awkward meet-the-parents" lunch. A few glasses of wine, good sandwiches, a bread pasta - all by 2pm. That to be followed up with home made pizzas that evening for my son returning from Boy Scout Camp - a few wines to enjoy the camp stories and yep another great weekend day came to an end.
Now the birthday - well it is August and that means Lobsters for our daughter's birthday - fantastic. Enjoyed every bit along with some crisp white wine, topped off with a Carvel Ice-cream cake and some Irish coffee outside by the fire pit.
Whoa - Not an ounce of guilt.
One fun side: We have apple and pear trees and decided to try our hand at hard cider making. We used our food processor and some buckets and purchased the yeast, cheese cloth bag and 3 gal glass bottle with stopper and some other fermenting items. What a fun project. Not one bee sting; but some happy ants! I will try to post a picture.
With the strength that I have gained from SP, I know I'll have no trouble getting back into the swing of moderation and healthy eating. Love the SP teams for this. A huge shout out to the Just Do It, Over 50 and the Cutting Down the Booze teams for truly helping me to focus and ENJOY the journey to healthy living habits.
