Time to go...
We are on our way to British Columbia.
- Flying from Toronto to Vancouver.
- Catching a bus and the Ferry to Vancouver Island.
- Renting a car downtown Victoria so we can get around for a few days before we will depart for our hiking trip on the West Coast trail (next blog!)...
- Checking in at the Officer's Mess in Esquimalt and spending some time with Sydney (my step daughter).
Our travel there was great. Dropping our bags at the airport went fast (good thing we were not overloaded!) and we had a very smooth flight. I snacked on light popcorn (that I carried with me in my purse!) - way cheaper than buying something en route!
Once we arrived at the Vancouver Airport, getting our bags took almost 30 min so we missed our bus/ferry.
So we walked around the airport and got a lunch (I had a large pho soup - veggies no noodle), grabbed a coffee and Jeff closed his eyes for 15 min! I like this airport, especially the autochthone art on display. This giant sculpture is one of my favorite.
We finally got into the bus and transfer to the ferry. I really enjoy the ferry trip, especially in a sunny day! You are on board for a little more than one hour but time goes so fast... This is a nice way to unwind.
I particularly enjoy looking at the ocean and the islands sitting outside on the deck. I remember how fortunate, back in 2005, I felt to be there. ( I was grieving the lost of my beloved grandpa Leo and I was starting my treatments against cancer) This place gave me hope; I felt loved and at peace! It was a nice to experience it again...
As a snack, we ate GIANT chocolate chips (almost bars!) cookies ...
Not too sure how to track this accurately!
but it was yummi!!!
We made it to our destination... and were welcomed as always by the locals!
One thing that I always do whenever we travel somewhere is checking the food channel website to see what restaurant and food discovery I should try!
The pick for dinner was on the show - You gotta eat here/Food Network Canada.
We went to a Polish Restaurant - Skinnytato. It was very good and different (a little pricy but... who cares? It is a special night, we don't often get to spend time with Sydney!)
I had a leek soup
and a Potato Pancake (extra-large potato pancake!!!) folded and stuffed with spinach and feta, served with three salads - red cabbage and apple, coleslaw and potato salad.
All is so fresh and of course made from scratch!
We went to bed early (BC time) - late (central time!)... That was a long day.
P.S. I will catch up with my sparkfriends very soon! Thinking of you
