96 Start with a BANG!!!

So - it's August. I am starting the month off with a bang! I have a 5k walk tonight!

I know to all you marathoners, half marathoners and triatheletes - you are scratching your head. But for this girl, this is monumental!!! I was hit by a car riding my bike four years ago and my knee has never been the same. At Easter time, I was almost 90 lbs overweight. I was barely able to walk two tenths of a mile without severe knee pain, but I didn't quit. I walked what I could and stopped. Each day I added a tiny bit more - and here I am, 30 lbs less of me, doing a 5k! Silly me, I am excited, beaming and smiling from ear to ear! Who woulda thought? Not to mention when I picked up my shirt and registration packet - I had to get a SMALLER shirt!!!

Doc says running is not in my best interest, so a marathon will never be in my future. My running stride is not like that of a gazelle, but more like a dairy cow. But this girl can put one foot in front of the other with the best of them. Walk on!!!

So today, gonna do that 5k walk, set a base time and try to do more 5k walks, maybe monthly, and improve upon my time.

What a way to start a new month! A new challenge!

I met my weightloss goal for July, but not my other goals - didn't do so good with tracking that water - I drank it all - but I forget to track it! My steps? Did close to 10,000 a day - but had a few days where I fell off the map with 5,000 or less. Blogging - that is sliding too! I am on the site almost every day, but don't always blog. So - August - same goals:

track that water!!!
10,000 steps a day
Blog daily
5 lb weight loss for the month
and keep sparking!!!

Might be a bit lofty with a vacation in the works - but we will be in Philly and New York and doing lots of walking! The travel days in the car will be rough, I will get in as much walking as possible - and know what - I will MISS it! Who woulda ever thought that?

So things are changing in this girl's life! Looking forward to new challenge! Got the full box of crayons out and working on filling that clean slate!!!

    That is such an accomplishment! BRAVO TO YOU!
    I, too, have knee and foot issues that can make walking difficult and running impossible to consider. My doctors don't want me running, but my bicycle and walking what I can is just fine. I've been trying to get in at least 10,000 steps a day and most days I can, but some days I can't - and that's okay. As long as you are doing the best you can, you are doing fine.

    You are doing awesome. I'm sure there were days after your accident that you could never imagine doing what you are doing, but here you are! Walking 3.1 miles at one time, that is awesome! Good for you. You do not need to worry about those people running marathons or half marathons because they are happy for you too. The people they are not impressed with are the ones not getting off the couch!

    That is so awesome! You are making an amazing come back. You should be proud of your self. What a way to start our step challenge. You will certainly have a leg up. I am also trying to do 10,000 steps a day, it's a challenge but we can do it.
