Word associations with food

Thursday, August 01, 2013

I've been realizing in the last year or two, but particularly since I got pregnant, that I've started making immediate associations with food when I see certain words that might be completely unrelated to food but have some vague connection. Like I'll see something that uses the word "straw" and my mind will instantly jump to "strawberries! yummy!" Or I'll be reading something about a golf club and I'll think "CLUB SANDWICH!" Just now I was reading an article about child fashion and came across the word "panache" and my mind immediately went to "mmmmmmmm chocolate ganache."

What is up with that??? Am I creepily obsessed with food or something?

I swear, I feel kind of like I must be a little crazy when I suddenly make these associations out of nowhere. Maybe it's just a result of spending so much time planning and tracking my food to make sure I cover all my nutrients and food groups and calorie needs? Does anyone else do this?

I have a few funny ones. The first time I heard the word, salary, I thought of celery. The word exhausted, applesauce. Inauguration...Egg nog! And one that I still think of....whenever I hear the term "garnishing someone's wages", I think of someone attaching parsley or a carrot curl or radish rose to their check!

emoticon It's a normal thing! It's a good game to play too! As we track our food & plan meals, I think that may have something to do with it.

Hey, go for the strawberries. emoticon It almost becomes a habit when you track your food. I feel guilty emoticon when I go off track. It had been a while since I had been on here but am having surgery in a little over a month. I want to lose between 5-10 lbs before then.

I look forward to reading future blogs.

    Have a great day!
