Mid-Week Check-In ... German Edition

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

I'm ashamed to admit it's Wednesday and this is the first day I've exercised. Yikes. My hotel is 2.8km away from the Brandenburg Gate, a nice 3+ mile roundtrip run. Instead, I went to the fitness center. My knees have been acting up and I grabbed the wrong shoes - these don't have my fancy new Superfeet insoles - so I figured I'm better off running on the treadmill. But it was 0293804982308490283493843 degrees in there, so I called it quits after 35 minutes and 4.13km.

On the upside, I love the treadmill in kilometers! It seems like it goes so much faster, and I feel like a total bad ass running at 9.0. :) Totally a mental thing, but it really matters.

I've been having too much beer and wine and I've had cheese at several meals. I've been loosely tracking my calories and it hasn't been pretty. I have had salads (usually with cheese) and pasta and pizza (after which I felt sick because of so much cheese at once) and bread and even cookies yesterday afternoon and ice cream last night. I haven't been eating everything in sight, but all the little snacks really add up fast.

My meeting planner is wonderful and goes out of his way to accommodate my veganism. I was helping him with a lunch event and he was SO AWESOME to order me a special vegan meal. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was an apple (which I physically cannot eat with braces), orange juice (to which I am highly allergic), and a red pepper sandwich (I hate peppers). So I basically had two slices of bread for lunch, and then of course the 3PM cookie break came and I devoured two chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Then at the social the food situation was kind of a mess so I had some artichokes, some pasta salad, some tomatoes ... and then ice cream.

I'm doing my best ...

Scratch that. No, I'm not doing my best. I'm doing moderately better than I have at past events on the road.

It's something, but I can do better. Today, so far, I've stayed vegan and healthy. Fruit and some bread with peanut butter for breakfast, a salad for lunch (lettuce, tomato, and a teeeeeensy bit of avocado so I'll probably still be hungry later), and I will strategically be unavailable for the cookie break in an hour and a half.

And I DID run this morning.

Here's to making Thursday and Friday better days, and getting home on Saturday and returning to normal.

I had to chuckle because when you wrote "I'm doing my best" I was thinking...NOT..and then you said it. That's honest! But you could do better as you said, but you did run so well done for not doing absolutely nothing. There is no 100% so this has been 10% but you still have the rest of the week to tweak and see the benefits.
