Mostly nutritious - a few days of photo food journaling

Have been taking pictures of most of my food for the last few days, and am again finding that taking pictures of what I'm eating increases my mindfulness about the meal. I take more care with my food, and that's pretty cool.

Thursday went like this:

I accidentally bought "no salt added" cottage cheese. Holy blanditude!
Added salt and pepper and had it w/a slice of multigrain bread and basil pesto

Coffee - I feel as though I drink too much coffee. Have cut back recently to 2-3 cups a day. (Used to drink a pot of espresso every morning.)

Lunch: had to run a work errand so stopped and picked up some steak stir-fry (1/2 lb) and mashed potatoes (1/3 lb), which was delicious and warming on a dreary day.

For dinner I had friends over for TV night. We are currently re-watching all of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in weeklyish installments and generally the host makes dinner. I was hoping to grill but the weather did not cooperate. Felt slightly awkward photographing my meal in front of my friends, so skipped it. It looked a lot like Friday's lunch, though. Curried turkey burger w/cheese on a bun with an ear of corn.

Dessert: homemade mango orange sorbet ( see photo Friday night)


Breakfast - added some herbs from my garden to the bland cottage cheese. 100% better. Also had multigrain bread with hummus and slices of fresh red pepper.

Lunch - curried turkey burger w/ corn

Dinner - whole wheat pasta with spinach, shallots and mushrooms, topped with Parmesan

Dessert : homemade mango orange sorbet w/a little mint on top

Started with coffee and friend-made zucchini bread. She'd swapped out some of the oil for applesauce, and it was quite nice.

Lunch was a lovely edamame and red cabbage (and red peppers, carrots, cucumbers, mango, raisins, almonds and mint) salad with a slice of multigrain bread and Camembert. Dressing on the salad is just lime juice, a little honey, and a little chili-garlic sauce.

Had a snack of herbed Greek yogurt as dip for some pretzels and chips.

Saturday night we grilled. Corn, red peppers, mushrooms, tomatillos and hot peppers for salsa, and marinated tofu.

Plus there was some wine. And half each of two squares of fancy chocolate.

Sunday I again started the day with zucchini bread and coffee.

Went to a Peruvian Independence Day pool party where many of the guests were chefs (!) and had: fresh veggie spring rolls, one with seaweed and one with tofu, a taste of pad Thai, a bit of a Peruvian dish with potatoes in layers and tuna in the middle, a veggie fritter, and a few chips with my tomatillo salsa. Later I had a yummy cookie and a bit of passion fruit tart the hostess had made.

There were also "Mopiscos" a Mojito made with pisco, a Peruvian brandy.

I got to swim, which was really wonderful. I hadn't been yet this year.

Sunday evening I made brown basmati rice and topped it with quorn fake chicken tenders with onions, zucchini, and more herb goodness from the garden. Had it with some more of my pretty edamame salad.

I find the Quorn products handy sometimes but have to admit I just don't love fake meat, for the most part. (Major exception: I could eat field roast apple sage grain meat sausages daily.)

Alright, going to aim for more frequent updates this week as four days at once is a lot!
