Houston, we have a problem

Sunday, July 28, 2013

My fridge interior needs to be completely rearranged. With the advent of green smoothies, I need a lot more room for fresh veggies and fruit. And moving us to a more raw veggie life I need space for all the veggie salads/cut veggies I keep on hand. And now that the spousal unit eats healthier, I need more space for yogurt and other fermented foods.

The Standard American Fridge is designed for the Standard American Diet. And that doesn't apply to us anymore.

My husband bought two used refrigerators as back ups... so if we have overflow of produce we've got it covered for just $150 for both. One was only six years old, and it may replace the old fridge I am using daily. I do wish DH would stop buying used appliances, but at least there are no calories in doing that. We have extra house and garage and he is doing what he has in the past: hoard stuff. He has slowed down in recent years since we moved. Hope you worked out your storage solutions.

I went modular and BPA-free with my storage containers a while back and it helped a lot but there's always room for improvement. Salad spinner takes way too much room so I don't get to use it often enough. Please share with us any tricks you develop for Fridge Control in a future blog post! Would love to read about it!

Back in June, I bought a 2nd fridge for this reason. It costs $500 for a 16 cuft. It works very well. I could buy 2 huge watermelons and not have to worry about where to put them. Here is my blog about it:
