My first weight-in (2013/07/23)

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

Weigh-in was Monday but first came the weekend – but not any weekend. It was vacation weekend at the chalet with the family which means there was all types of food accept healthy. But it was vacation right.... so I ate and ate and ate. However, I did try and balance out with exercising kayaking (1hour) one day walking the other (30 minutes to an hour). None the less, as the weekend continued the closer weigh-in was coming up... and needless to say, I was a little worried.

Here was Monday, and I just did not want to go all the way to the gym to weigh myself so I took the scale at home and I stepped on and the numbers read – 158LBS. And I had a heart attack! According to this not only did I not lose weight but I had gained a pound which was hard to believe.

But I assumed and I told myself I just needed to focus some more and go to the gym more often. So I woke up this morning (Tuesday- 2013/07/23) and started tracking and reading and I happen to fall on a trivia question which taught me that you “gain” weight after eating but it is not real weight gain. So I went to the gym for my training session (cardio and abs) and stepped on. I thought it would confirm – well wasn’t I wrong! It read 153LBS! And to my surprise i lost 4LBS in two weeks :D

So I apparently just learned my very first lesson on SparkPeople *do not weight yourself after you eat* I learned then when you do this you gain “false” weight and it affects your weight-ins. Which no one really wants!

I also figured out, that the scale you use is important. We need to say consistent and always use the same one. So I am now ALWAYS going to use the scale at my gym – it is an old model doctor’s scale with weights to calculate your weight but it is precise.

With all heart attacks and scares aside I am happy. My first weight-in was successful and i officially lost my first 4LBS with SparkPeople.

Thank you for all the support guys!

It helps a lot. I don’t have a whole lot to lose (aprox. 23lbs) but my big challenge is the mind, not to fall into my old patterns. Showing me to eat well and proper amounts - I’ve always struggled with that I either ate too much or not nearly enough (burning everything I would intake ate at the gym) spark people and all of you are showing me that I can eat and still lose weight – the HEALTHY way.

Every scale is different. You are right....stick with one scale and don't weigh too often. Our bodies fluctuate and so stick with once a week, same time of day and similar clothes.

    Good luck.

Thank you for the tip! I think I will do that - Every Monday, before my workout session at the gym.

Always weigh yourself the same day, the same time and in the same clothes (or without them). It makes for a more accurate weigh in! And if you weighed in AFTER your workout you may be showing a loss that is not accurate....if you sweat a lot....so try and weigh in the mornings, you'll see fewer crazy ups and downs that way (those make me crazy)!
