I LOVE Being A Morning Person

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately on how fortunate I am that I’m a morning person. I walk in the mornings before work and I love the freshness of the morning and seeing the birds and animals wake up.
I admit it wasn’t always easy to get up earlier and get out of the house to exercise before work. I had to make it a habit and now that habit is ingrained in me. Way back 5 ½ years ago when I joined Spark People I did not exercise at all and wanted to lose 50 pounds. Wow! Look at me now and how far I have come. I started out slow, waking up ½ hour early to walk on my treadmill and log my food. Exercise minutes? Ok, I logged them also but walking a mile seemed 10 miles and it took me a few months to make myself get on that treadmill consistently.

Then I discovered walking outside in the mornings and HIKING! Now I love to hike on the weekends in the mountains and I’m very fortunate to live in the foothills with miles of trails and walking areas. In fact I live across the street from a State Fish And Game reserve! I can’t believe I have lived here for 30 years and wasted 20 of those years not walking in that area. Where was my head? Of course I am making up for it now.

I got addicted to exercise! Yes! Five years ago I started strength training on my lunch hour at Curves and I could never think of giving that up now just like I won’t ever give up walking a few miles every day before work. It is something I love to do and I now feel that at 61 years old I am in better shape and healthier than I was in my forty’s. I eat whole foods and I don’t eat the fast food that I used to eat. I pack my lunch everyday so I am not tempted to eat fast food. I also keep healthy snacks in my desk at work. Spark People has taught me a lot about making good choices. Of course I’m not perfect and when I’m on vacation I do eat fast food but I try to make good choices and eat grilled food and chicken and fish whenever I can. I also love ice cream and let’s just say I’m still fighting that addiction. I also wanted to say Thank You to my team “Sparkie’s Spark Plugs”. You keep me motivated to do my best. Thank you my friends.

I took a picture this morning from the end of my driveway as I left to take my morning walk before work of a beautiful sunrise. Taking a picture of the sunrise, one of many sunrise pictures that I have taken, is what got me thinking about being healthy enough to enjoy the mornings and thanking the Lord for making me a morning person.

    You make me want to cry.....I'm so proud of you. What a motivator you are. Janey, I'm turning 60 in December and I want to be healthy and better at 61 than I was in my 40's. Thank you my friend!! emoticon
