Consistency is the Key to Success!

"It’s never easy to change old habits or start new routines. Studies show that it takes anywhere from 21 to 40 days to really turn a new behavior into a persistent habit. And during that time, you’re going to have to work at it pretty diligently—even when you don’t feel like it."

This is a quote from an article that I read the other day.

I had heard that it takes 21 to 40 days to build a new habit. I know that it is true! I have been here on Spark People 119 days! emoticon emoticon

When I first started, I had been eating very little (and what I did eat was not good for me) and not moving at all! I had a lot of trouble eating enough calories, and I couldn't exercise for more that a few minutes without feeling sick and dizzy! emoticon emoticon

But now, When I decide what I am going to eat for the day, my meals are exactly what I need nutritionally for the day. I don't have to plan each bite like I did at first. I just seem to know what to eat! When I track the food, it is almost always just right!

My exercise has gone from short, 5 to 10 minute workouts each day, to 45 to 75 minutes twice a day! My workouts are not strenuous, I do a stationary bike at a leisurely pace, but I am MOVING! Before SP, I was in bed most of the day! Now I get up and move around a lot more! (Some of that is because I am drinking so much water, I have to run to the bathroom every 1/2 hour!!!) emoticon emoticon

Before SP, I was drinking a half gallon or more of iced tea each day. My 1/2 gallon of tea had 1 cup of sugar in it! I didn't drink plain water at all! Now, I drink between 64 and 96 oz of water every day! I rarely drink anything else! (sometimes, diet soda, iced tea with sweetener,or no calorie additives for water) White sugar has not touched my lips for 119 days except for a piece of lemon creme cake on my birthday!(Eveything in moderation!)

There are still days when I don't want to eat, drink water or exercise, but I still do it! I joined a challenge on one of my teams, and I feel motivated to get my daily points even when I don't want to! I want to get my points for the team! (Go Team Ranger!!!)

I spend most of my day with the computer on SP! I am always reading articles and blogs, and it is a source of constant motivation! I am so glad to have all my Spark Friends and this wonderful site! It is what makes me sure that I will reach my goals and have a healthy life! Thanks to each and every one of you! We can do this together!
