My Health is My Spiritual Act of Worship
Sunday, July 21, 2013
Today is a more optimistic than yesterday. I made it through the day yesterday making healthy food choices! Granted, I didn't go out and exercise, but having a healthy diet is my hated struggle.
I realized yesterday that my healthful living is my spiritual act of worship. I've stated before that my goal of being physically fit is so I can serve Christ in whatever capacity He calls me to. Right now, that is serving people in the medical field where physical health is of utmost importance, both so I can do my job and so I set an example for my patients. When I think of my health being an act of worship though, then it becomes so much more than my own body. It is glorifying God in my daily choices. It brings me to Colossians 3:23 (NIV, 1997): "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men." I want to live a life honorable to Him and one where people look at what I do and will praise His name.
On this Sunday morning, I am reminded of how my existence is short. My purpose is to love Christ and love people through His example. Physical health is a subset of that, and I long to worship Him with how I treat my body for all of my days! With that in mind, healthy food choices AND exercise are coming my way today. May God's name be praised!
