Kick the Can Down the Road

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Remember that old game from your younger days (which ones we won't say) when you were out in the street with your friends playing "Kick the Can?" Or perhaps getting "Kicked in the Can" is more your speed.

It's so satisfying to watch the colas duke it out over market share. Every year about a gazillion cans of CocaCola flow around the world. With close to 7 billion people on the planet you'd better believe the master marketers are scheming for ways to satisfy all that thirst.

The ads say it all...Things Go Better With Coke. Really? For sure? Event the Devil gets his two cents in.

But at the bottom of their rainbow......there is no pot of gold, only rust on cars and dissolving tooth enamel. Doesn't matter which form you imbibe you will always have the carbonation to deal this. Nothing as pleasant as a flat soda.

According to their own reports the American public is chewing off the leash and making a run towards less soda. It's enough to make their Polar Bear blush.

Second quarter volume growth is well below expectations, showing declines in parts of the world. The blame is placed on currency change head winds. What does that mean? I thought head winds were something about jet airliners.

The other uncontrollable factor was wet, chilly weather. They don't grow Coke unless you count the "coca" beans. Maybe they can make the case for a poor harvest of corn for the high fructose corn syrup at floats their boat. A bad corn harvest translates into increased expenses. There are a great many aspects of this product that just about anything can be blamed. Hey, how about the price of gas in the delivery chain?

The final tally for this year is that the United States and some other countries are bucking the Cola trend. This year the soda consumption fell to a 26 year low.

In the spirit of public health, may I suggest that CocaCola return to the original ingredients that made that druggist in Georgia so famous.

Yes, it's the "coca" and as we call it, cocaine. No wonder it was so popular!!! Later the coca was removed from the ingredients but by then people were hooked and didn't really notice the swap out.

If it can clean a bird bath out (my uncles go to cleaner to put in his birdbath every week), imagine what it is doing to your stomach and body!

Never was a soda drinker - maybe 2 or 3 a year and coke would never be my first choice. I'll take a ginger ale though

I never liked Coco-Cola. We were always Pepsi drinkers. Then the evil Mt. Dew, which is made by Pepsi entered my life. When I was growing up we had soda on Saturday nights when we had pizza from Jim's pizza. Probably twice a month. If we had a cook out we were allowed soda. My parents bought the two liters and we all had a glass. I never had a can of soda until I bought them myself.

Thank goodness my mom would not let us drink soda as kids..............I've never developed the "addiction". Mom used to have one soda a day (remember Fresca?) but I haven't seen her drink a soda for at least 30 years. I've been trying to help hubby give us soda, to no avail...............I think he has been programmed or brainwashed!!! (just kidding but I wish that he would kick his drinks to the curb)

O.M.G! I never did like Coke anyway, but all the more reason not to!

I remember doing an experiment putting a penny in a glass baby food jar then putting Coke in it. Clean as a whistle! YIKES!

    HUGS and smiles.
