Guess I needed to be INSANE!!

A good chunk of the Mid-west has been under heat advisories for the last few days, this includes Chicago. I also have not done my normal WALKING in two weeks, let alone run.
So of course today I run a 5k in 90 degree heat! LOL!! Yep, today was the Color Me Rad run that I signed up for back in February. As of 6am, I was up and ready. Not with my usual enthusiasm, I will admit. I was miserable and I didn't feel like running. But I had my white outfit and hubby said he would find shade and sit in a chair - so off we went.
Got there, got my packet, and found a good spot for hubby to sit. I walked around a bit but just wasn't feeling it. That's ok, I was gonna run and go home. No biggie.
We started taking a few more pictures (hubby said I would need them for my scrap book). It was nice being out with hubby. So I started feeling a bit better.
They didn't have course maps and I found out later that the course had been altered this am to keep us in shade and under McCormick place a bit more than originally noted on the website. By race time it was over 88 degrees with a brutal sun. That's the only way I can explain it. Standing in the corral I felt like the sun was purposely trying to cook us.
I ended up being next to this really nice/playful couple. They got me laughing and we were throwing some color packets at each other. Then we were off. The were no mile markers on this course. I have no idea what was where. I know there were color stations squirting cool water that were a blessing. There was only one water station at about the half-way point. The clouds of colored corn starch were extremely drying.
I was sweating horribly. I had pain in my side that wouldn't stop. My shin splints were back and the corn starch was burning my lungs and eyes. And I was having the time of my life!!! The tougher it got to keep going the more fun I was having. I was so completely in the moment, nothing mattered. Did I walk a few times - yeah I haven't been training at all. But in truth I had a great race! My time was 32 minutes, not to shabby. I was completely covered in color and sweat. It was FANTASTIC!!!
I feel so much better now. Today was insane. That run was NOT something I ever thought would be good or fun. But it was exactly what I needed. That and an hour in the shower (I still have pink in a few places!!!)
