Today was day four of working on cleaning my mom's old bedroom. So far I have removed 9 contractor's bags of utter trash, plus the recycling and two laundry baskets of clothes to wash and possibly give away. We also reorganized her room downstairs where she currently sleeps. Anything mouse chewed is getting tossed... and a lot of things have been chewed. Yuck. And of course the weather is beastly, with no just high temps, but also high humidity. I haven't run in two or three days, because it has been so miserable. I am going to go out and run tonight though. It might only be a short run (I will see how I feel), but I am getting out there. Cooper absolutely refuses to go outside except to do his business I am not forcing him to, as I don't want to make him sick.

Mom thinks she is getting out of the hospital today (I don't), but if she doesn't I will be out there again tomorrow doing more cleaning. I hate cleaning. I especially hate cleaning when it is hot and sticky. I know I am whining... sigh. It is just that kind of day. Maybe I will be more upbeat tomorrow.

Kayaking was fun last night. We went to Presque Isle in Erie. It is a great mix of swamp, stream, lagoon and lake paddling. And all in just two hours. It was kind of windy (to go with the heat), so the lake was choppy. It was fun. We didn't see any beaver, but there were quite a few kayakers out there, so the beavers were probably hiding. I made for a very late night though. I didn't get home until nearly 11:30pm. I was going to get up early this morning and run, but I slept through my alarm.

We all need to whine now and then - it is good for the soul! It sounds like you've had a ton of work on your shoulders so you probably did way more exercise than you are giving yourself credit for.

You are not a whiner. You are doing hard work - physical and emotional - in miserably hot, humid weather. Keep doing what you can to take care of yourself and know that sooner or later all that junk will be out of that room. There is an end to it.

You're not whining, you're venting. Good thing you can get out kayaking to reset your brain and cool off.

You're not whining, you're just hot and sticky and tired and overwhelmed by the enormity of what you're having to deal with. I'd be whining big time....the real thing! I'm glad you're still taking care of yourself. I hope you get a break in the weather and Cooper cheers up soon. Poor guy.

Sounds like you are doing a great job on your mothers home. I helped with an aunt and uncles home years ago. She was a hoarder and lived 3 hours away. Since they had no children it fell to some of us. Gave my young children nightmares that things were caving in on them. They were neat organized hoarders though which helped. But there were aisles with boxes going to the ceiling. We were all worried about cave-ins! No one was hurt fortunately. Hearing about all the work you are having to do is bringing back memories.

Whine away! You are doing great, and you are doing the right thing, even though it will likely NOT be appreciated by Mom. Do you have others helping you? Brother?

Continue to take the kayaking breaks, and yes, get out for the run, even if it is a short one. Exercise relieves our stress!

You are an amazing woman, and a great daughter! I am glad you are still doing things for you - kayaking last night, for instance. That's the way to keep balance (and sanity) in your life.

Keep up the good work. Geez, who DOES like cleaning! I wear my Fitbit so I keep track of calories burned and steps taken, and also use my iPod so I get to listen to some upbeat tunes. If you don't have an iPod, just turn up the radio REAL LOUD and sing! emoticon

    This too shall pass!

there is a light at the end of the tunnel- and you are getting closer to it with every pile you plow through- keep those memories of your evening paddles to help you through the hot times - your running form will be all the better for having taken a few days off- do you really want to train in high humidity???
