triathlon training update

Friday, July 19, 2013

I have officially signed up for my next triathlon. It's August 4th, at the same location as my last triathlon. This is a two day event with Saturday being a all women's event and Sunday being a Co-Ed event. I did the all women's one last year as my first tri-it. This year I picked the Co-Ed one.

I picked this event for a few reasons. After talking with a few people who know me and know the struggles I've had with swimming and overcoming that. The all women's one has a lot of women in it, in all categories. Being I'm still on the heavy side of life I am able to be in the 'athena' division. Not many race in this division. In a lot of races just by participating in that division you will win. Now at the same time not many women are racing in the Co-Ed group. Last year only one person in my division raced in the Co-Ed group. My times are faster than hers where. I know it sounds silly to place myself in a race that just by showing up and racing I should 'podium'. However everyone things it would be a great boost to my over all triathlon experience. So that is what I have decided to do.

It's in Two weeks! WOW! Am I ready? I think I am.

My swimming is getting better and better. I'm not afraid in the water and can totally hold my own. I'm not fast in the water by any means. But I'm OK. My bike rides are good. I'm working on hill work outs and the race is on flats. I'm training at Olympic level but will be racing the sprint. As for the run, well my foot is feeling better it still gives me some problems every once in a while. However I can run on my pre core with out it hurting me. So happy about that.

In the mean time I'm looking to the future..... Oh dare I say... I have my "A" Races picked out for next year and the year after that already. I'm not quite ready to say what they are but I have a plan.

Have a great weekend.

There is a women's only half marathon here in town. I don't ever bother with it because my husband and I both run and I just don't want to do a race that he can't do. I may do a women's only tri though just because the swim is indoors and they have you go in 15 second intervals. I figure if it's co-ed my time will be further down the list so I'll be hanging out for a long long time waiting to start.

Anyway about the women's half. It's almost funny but the organizer said they wanted to have a women's only event to encourage more women to participate in a less competitive environment. Uh yea, women..less competitive - what planet ARE you from?

Happy to hear your foot is feeling better, but still be easy with it. I think the co-ed race will be a nice change for you. Can't wait to hear about it.
