Sparky's New Home....Well, Sort Of!!

Thursday, July 18, 2013

emoticon Since My Computer crashed I cannot access any of my Pictures of Sparky. But I did figure out how to download some Generic Pictures on the Library Computer.

This looks a lot like Sparky does now. He is about 6 inches in diameter and has DEFINITELY outgrown his 10 Gallon Aquarium. Thanks to A LOT of Gold Presidential Dollars and Regular Quarters that I have saved over the past several years, I was able yesterday to go to the Bank and get enough Green Paper Money to go shopping for a new Home for Sparky.

This tank looks very similar to the 40 Gallon tank that I purchased, except that mine has a flat black net over the top, not the domed one shown in the Photo. The biggest difference (as far as I can tell) in a 'Regular' Aquarium and a "Turtle Tank" is the placement of the filter. Notice that the Filter fits through a hole in the end of the tank instead of hanging over the top edge of the Tank. This way the water can be kept lower than in a Typical Fish Aquarium.
It is Very Important that Turtles are able to get out of the water and "Bask" under a heat source. In Nature they find Rocks, Logs, Debris and sometimes other Turtles.

In his new tank, Sparky will have a Deluxe Basking Platform that my Son found on Amazon. In addition to giving him a place to Bask, it frees up space in the water for Swimming!

Unfortunately it won't be here for several days, and I don't want to put his old Dock in the new tank so we will probably Not get him in his new home until the New Dock arrives.
It is hard to believe how much he has grown in just 3 Short Years!

That is almost identical to a picture of Sparky shortly after I found him. Now he barely fits in my hand with my fingers spread as wide as I can!
emoticon I am not sure how you would Track it, but I know I will be taking a LOT of Steps and Burning Calories Galore cleaning around his new home and getting the New Tank set up for him.

He Just Better Appreciate it, LOL!!

More basking Turtles!!

Sparkey looks like a red ear turttle and I have wild ones in the pond at the barn. I know this because I have seen little ones wandering in the barn. I have always heard it was good luck to help a turttle across the street. One day I saw a snapping turttle trying to cross and I stopped my truck and got out to help him. I took my toe and flipped him like a tiddlie wink and he went flying across that street like a rocket and landed in the ditch. When I got back in the truck my son said " I don't think that's what they meant when they said help Mom " emoticon

Sparky sounds like a pretty lucky turtle. Nobody here seems to keep turtles as pets and I have never seen this kind of thing before.

Lovely blog a great insight and most enlightening.

    S P A R K Y !!!!!

I have come to really emoticon your Sparky story! To be honest, in the beginning I was not the biggest fan. However, as he has grown, I have certainly come to appreciate the symbolism A LOT more! emoticon (Maybe it is me that has grown)

Poor little guy! He was in an environment he could not possibly survive in, wandering around, probably just as confused emoticon as any of us as to how he let himself get where he was. Then along came this crazy woman on her walk. emoticon Undoubtedly, he resisted her. He was probably certain she could NOT be of any help. However, she found him, persisted in the "chase", managed to pick him up, dusted him off and by bestowing an odd name on him, taking him home, and immersing him into the Spark World as the official, unofficial mascot, changed his life forever! emoticon

Now, three short years later, with the right environment, healthy food, and regular exercise he has grown beyond anything the woman might have imagined. emoticon emoticon WOW! Lucky emoticon

But the woman didn't stop there! She kept walking emoticon emoticon kept exercising emoticon emoticon and kept eating right emoticon emoticon emoticon and one day came upon her little sister. The sister was living in an environment she could not possibly survive in, wandering around as confused emoticon as anyone as to how she let herself get into the shape she was in. The crazy woman invited her sister to walk, emoticon and eat right, emoticon emoticon emoticon but, like the turtle, her sister also resisted her, certain she could NOT be of any help. Once again, she persisted in the "chase", managed to encourage without nagging and waited.

Now, three?, four?, years later, the sister has been given an "odd" Username, has joined her crazy woman sister in the Spark World. She is walking, emoticon emoticon and eating right and has changed her life forever! Wow! Lucky sister!!!!

emoticon for letting me be a turtle about getting into the Sparking! I guess I needed the time. emoticon and I emoticon YOU, my crazy woman sister for not giving up on me!

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to get my own something to be MY Sparky....... or maybe I just need a tissue!
