3 for 3 Recap

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

Hey guys. A lot of you have said you like reading about my CrossFit workouts which I totally get. Before I started CrossFit I stalked a few of my friends' Sparkblogs who did it. I just couldn't get enough!!! So I understand! But man, I have so little time these days :-/ But I still want to talk about it! Here's THREE recaps for you!

12 minute AMRAP

15 sumo deadlift high pulls
15 hand release pushups
15 box jumps

I used a heavier kettlebell than normal and actually I did all 15 all the rounds unbroken so I guess I could have RXed the SDHP emoticon I also added some height to my box. I have this friend I made in class because we are both from the Pittsburgh area, and he got a 24 inch box jump last night and the look on his face, it was like Christmas emoticon so I threw a 35# plate on my box which added maybe 3 inches. I got 4 rounds plus 10 SDHP and let me tell you I worked for it all! It was a killer. Well, they all are, of course, but this one felt especially tough.

Afterwards my friend was so excited I added inches to my box. He was like, "You represent, 724!" That's his nickname for me. 724. That's the area code for the region between Pittsburgh and Erie. For some reason, that's what people call it... when my friends go back home we always say "heading to The 724" and such. I honestly have no idea why that region is known by it's area code, other than a long time ago, it used to be 412 like Pittsburgh, and then we got our own... does anyone else live in a place that's known by it's area code? Or is anyone else from The 724?! LOL

Anyway that was Monday.

20 minute AMRAP of:

5 chest-to-bar pullups
10 wall balls
15 kettlebell swings

During round 6, the coach brought me a heavier kettlebell and said, "Here's your new weight. Enjoy." LOL. So I had to go heavier 6 rounds in! I used a 12# ball for wall balls but I am STILL struggling with pullups- even with the thickest band. I am officially blaming my height. I read a very interesting article that suggested taller people have more trouble with pullups because of angles and leverage and stuff so I'm going with it. LOL. I'm 5'11 and there is nothing on me that isn't ridiculously long (apparently, anyway... I was only the 6th tallest girl in my high school class so I always thought I was average height)

For this I did 8 rounds plus the pullups and wall balls.

"Tabata This!"

Tabata row
Rest 1 minute
Tabata squat
Rest 1 minute
Tabata pullups
Rest 1 minute
Tabata pushups
Rest 1 minute
Tabata situps

We divided into teams and each team started at a different station. Pullups annoy me, as I just said, so I chose those first to get them the heck over with. So I went pullups, pushups, situps, row, squats.

Normally your Tabata score is the lowest number of reps you did in any of the rounds, but today our score was our total number of reps for the whole workout. I went into the squats at 216, and I wanted 300 sooooo bad. I was pushing so hard, but I just couldn't quite get there. I'm guessing because sometime between rounds 5 and 6, my legs disappeared and were replaced by flesh-flavored Jell-O. My score was 295, which really hurt because if I had just done 1 more rep at each station I would have gotten it!

Some of the very experienced, crazy fit athletes got in the 400s. That just blows my mind! I can't wait till I can do that! Well actually I can, because the journey will be fun!

I have had a great deal of fun this week but I'm totally ready for some heavy lifting! I haven't picked up a heavy barbell once this week and I need my fix. I love metcons but I love lifting too. I love it ALL!!!

Except burpees. F*** burpees.

I'm 6' tall and I've never ever ever been able to do a pull-up in my life.

And heh, my folks live in the 724. (It changed over when I was in grade 10.)
