Feeling Discouraged

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

I've been on my diet and exercise plan for almost 3 weeks now and have only lost 5 pounds. I just don't understand why it so hard to lose weight...im trying very hard but it seems like its getting me nowhere. When I do my workouts I sweat a lot, but I looked it up, and it says when you sweat your only using water weight which really isn't taking off any fat... emoticon

you are doing great, don't be discouraged. it takes time! having a no loss week happens to everyone! i havent had a loss in 2 weeks. so frustrating! if it happens again, examine your foods. are you getting enough protein? staying in your calorie range? did you eat a lot of sodium the day before your weighed in? all of these things can affect your weight loss. gaining muscle can too. your body eventually gets used to the same workouts, so changing it up by doing different types helps.

Losing 1-2 pounds a weeks a good way to go - so in theory you are doing it right.
I know it is frustrating to see "slow" results and it would be nice to drop 5 pounds a week and see results quickly. In the long run, every pound lost is another one gone.. You didn't gain all the weight in 3 months, so you cannot expect to lose it in a short time. Give your body time to adjust at its own pace..
The big thing that has helped me is eliminating wheat - a highly addictive substance that leads to cravings and weight gain. It is hard but can be done (I did it!)

The exercise time you lose water. But for hours after a workout, your body burns fat to help the muscles recover. So, sweat like the dickens (means you're drinking enough water, go you) and grab a quick snack (roughly 1/2 the cals of the burn) and then be happy that your body is shaking it up and burning it off for HOURS after you're done.

5 pounds in 3 weeks is awesome by the way. You're doing wonderful. Just keep it up. I believe in you!

5 pounds in 3 weeks is actually really good and you should be proud of yourself. I know it doesn't feel like much, especially when you are just starting, but remember 1-2 pounds a week is pretty standard. :) I've been at this 15 months and lost 70 pounds, that isn't fast at all and I've hit several plateaus, but as long as you don't give up you will get to where you want to be, I promise! emoticon

I would check the things that do not show up on the scale, how are your clothes fitting now... your bra's everything even shoes. I am able to hook my bra on a different hook I've been doing this since March and have only lost 15 and I think about 8 since I joined Sparkpeople... but think of where you would be if you didn't do this.

    Good luck!

Have you taken your measurements? The scale is not always your friend when you are working out. Don't forget you are gaining muscle when you workout.
