Falling Down and Getting Back Up

After getting off to a great start, I went on vacation (to Paris), and you can guess what happened. Yes, I lost all memory of my desire to lose weight and get fit. Well, we did walk a lot and climb many, many stairs. But we also ate and drank with relative abandon with entirely predictable results!

After coming home and going through two bouts of a flu-y/cold-y thing, I'm back on track. And therein lieth the lesson -- in the past, when I slipped, I just let myself keep slipping and gaining. Not this time. And what's interesting is that after the initial 'ugh" of seeing a weight gain, it really feels great to be back in the game again.

Over the weekend, I watched a movie in which one character says to another: "You took a hit." The other character agreed that he had taken a hit. The first guy then says, "It's up to you whether you get back up." That struck me so strongly as being true about the journey to health. I took my (self-imposed!) hit. But now I've got back up, and am much less likely to allow myself to take another hit when another opportunity comes around.
