My love/hate relationship with the grocery store

Saturday, July 13, 2013

We all have to eat. I know this, and my stomach knows this too! Sometimes, it speaks louder than my voice!

I've always loved shopping for groceries. Don't ask me why, I don't even like to cook! Maybe it's all the interesting shapes and colors; the possibilities inherent in all those raw ingredients. I know I just said I don't like to cook a second ago, but I LOVE to eat! I might even consider myself a 'foodie' even. If I ever won the lottery, the first thing I'd do is hire a personal chef!

But, I digress. I had to go to the store today. I usually shop on Sundays, early, to beat the crowd. My hair appointment went late. I didn't plan correctly, and didn't bring a snack to have while getting my hair done. Oh well, I thought to myself. I have a list, and I just need a few things. I can be in and out in just a few minutes!

It felt like I was running a gauntlet! While I stuck to the "safe" perimeters of the store, my stomach was calling to all the unhealthy snacks, cakes and cookies out there. I SWEAR they were answering back! I stuck to my plan though! I grabbed what I needed (chicken breasts and fruit and an over the counter medication), and got out of there without cramming a doughnut or chips in my face while waiting in line! Win one for the team!

We've all heard the saying "never shop in an empty stomach." Man is it ever true! I now know to be better prepared.

Here's to all of us for realizing our weaknesses, and striving to get past them; make strengths instead of excuses!

absolutely, my DH and I go grocery shopping on a empty stomach sometimes, and it is unreal what goes in our basket, way way more than we normally spend, and actually he is the worst offender, emoticon but I do my share,
