Week 28: Let Freedom Run 5K
Wednesday, July 10, 2013
WOW I can’t believe almost 1 whole week has gone by and I didn’t blog about my very first
. It was a hectic holiday and work week.
So yep, I strapped on my running shows and finally participated in a REAL
. I emphasis real because I’ve been doing virtual ones on sparks for about 6 months now. The race was on the morning of July 4. It wasn’t too hot but it was a bit humid. At the starting line with the crowd, it was kinda hard to breathe so I was relieved when the starting gun sounded. I was determined to run the whole time. I listened to people’s advice and started out slow. I would say the first mile was the hardest not because of the running but the crowd of people. Once that thinned out, then I was able to pick up the pace and go at my own speed. It felt good but I could see a ton of people in front of me. I knew there were be people who finished in like 15 minutes. Who are these people?
Anywoo, my secret goal was to finish the race in less than 30 minutes but I wasn’t sure how realistic that would be. So I was hoping for less than 32 minutes. There were inclines and declines. I’m so glad that when I run on the treadmill that I do the program that automatically changes the incline throughout the run and also when I run outside. That really helped. I tried to run faster when I was going downhill to make up for the time when I was going uphill.
I’m happy to report that I ran the whole time. I actually sprinted about 2 blocks to the finish line. I heard my 3 ½ yr old daughter screaming my name. I checked the clock and it said 30:45 minutes. I was happy with that. But you racers know that is the gun time and not the official time.
Below is my official results.
Chip time 29:47 minutes
Overall 606th out of 1,304 (Did better than 1/2)
Out of the females 250th out of 724
