Scared of low carb eating: I was to...

I had done about everything out there to lose weight or I felt like it anyway. Things that worked were things I could not stick with over time, like 500 calories a day, as if, I knew better than that anyway....I have never gave low carb a chance in this race tho. My blood sugar was getting on up there, borderline of meds, so I thought why not give low carb a try. I starting reading, joined Atkins and read some more. Then I jumped in with both feet. I was so lost with what I could and could not eat even tho Atkins has a list to go by, I was scared I would eat something I thought was right but was not,so I ate very simple stuff right from the list did not mix up foods much just ate right from the list. Now 3 and a half months later I have started to come up with my own low carb items using those foods I am not so scared of what I can and not eat anymore. My blood sugar has got way better only high now of the mornings when I get out of bed but even then its like 120 which is not bad at all really but the Dr says it needs to be under that for the morning reading. I am sure with more time that will work out to be where it needs to be also.

So if you are scared of low carb don't be. Meat and vegy's are good for you, If you are scared of what people will say about what you are doing because they do scare when you say low carb or most do. Tell them that you cut the junk food out and drinks out and leave it at that for I mean really that is what you do.

Yes the first week or so is not easy but it will get better if you keep going with it. You may feel weak,tired and wore out your head may hurt some put it will pass in a few days. Some people don't feel this way at all. I had already gave up soda before I started and my head hurt from that for about 3 or 4 days. When I started Atkins I had to add a spoon of salt to my food threw out the day for I don't drink broth, nasty. The reason for that is when your body runs on fat instead of carbs it uses salt different also. I am one that I did not salt anything before Atkins because it makes me swell and it still will if I have to much but not near as bad or as often as it use to. Now that I have been on Atkins for awhile I don't add salt to my food,well certain ones I do still, I get most of my salt from the sodium that is already in foods I eat now days.

I have lost 28 pounds since march 19th of this year. I don't walk around hungry or feel like I am not happy with my plate of food, you know like I have to eat this if I want to lose, we all know that feeling.

    I went on Atkins a few years ago and it was wonderful I lost loads of weight and after the first few weeks it became easier. I was never healthier and all cravings had gone. I came off it deliberately at Christmas after a whole year. I've written about this before, I was like an addict for those carbs and once I had started eating them I couldn't stop. I tried to get back on the Atkins afterwards but just couldn't. If you stick with Atkins you will definitely lose weight and feel amazing. Good luck!

    I started Atkins due to being threatened by my doctor with Insulin injections. That was 4 years ago, and I have lost 140 lbs, and been off my medications for 3 years now.

    When people ask me, I tell them I do Atkins. If they say it is dangerous, I say " so is diabetes, and weighing 361 lbs. ". I don't try to sway people over to low carb. If they want to learn, they will ask, but most are brain-washed to believe high fat, and red meat are bad for you.

    I'm right there with you....went low carb because of my diabetes...my Januvia quit working and my sugar went to 427...my doctor told me to go low carb...thank God I've got such and up to date doctor. I've lost 46 pounds and am loving my low carb lifestyle

    I dont eat bread either. I dont eat much fruit just yet for they have more carbs in them than my body is ready for. I do eat a few rasberries or blueberries sometime but not many at all, a good bite maybe.

    You go girl! Keep making those right choices. Don't worry about the negative people. If you found what is right for you and you are getting enough nutrients then keep it up! Your body will tell you if it's the wrong thing and for you, this seems to be a right fit!

    I eat tons of fresh veggies raw and stir fried and baked and fruit in moderation and tons of pinto beans and organic protein like eggs, and ground sirloin and don't forget that veggies and fruit are carbs so, the processed foods are what kills us and gets us fat.

    Eating real fresh food is the way we are created to eat without cooking all the nutrients out of our food.

    I don't eat any bread at all.

    Since I have been eating like this I have finally started to lose weight and feel so good and never get hungry like I used to and my cravings are now in control.

    So many people don't know what low carb really means. They need to read up on it before they talk bad about it, lol.......I think the problems is they want to eat their carbs, hey I did to but I wanted weight loss more.

    I was scared the first time I tried a low carb diet. In fact, I was so afraid that I gave up 3 months later and gained a lot of weight. Cut to a few years later, a few failed low calorie, but "everything in moderation diet" nothing seemed to work. However, a wake up call from the doctor led me to trying the Ideal protein plan followed by a modified paleo plan. Turns out fear of dying young is scarier than low-carb. I am now my lowest weight since the 7th grade (I am in my late 20's) and feel better than I have in years. Yes its scary out first, but its scarier if you don't lose the weight. Keep up the great work. emoticon

    Lots of veggies, healthy protein, and a reasonable amount of carbs is good for you. I'm not sure how the healthy carbs factor in, but maybe it's something the doctor can help with. I do better with a low sodium diet, too. I don't know much about low carbs, but I'm interested to learn more.

    I don't tell most people that I eat low carb these days. I get the "oh no, that's so dangerous and I just HATE eating all that meat!!" comments. Like you I now tell people that I mostly eat whole foods, very little processed, and no grains because they bother me.

    I'm so glad that you're finding success! It's almost miraculous to eat this way, see so many health improvements, and NOT BE HUNGRY all the time!

    I have tried Atkins and had some success I understand the worrying about what to eat and not to eat I used to drive myself nuts with that. I used to by the bars but quit they are full of garbage and they stalled my weight loss.

    Now I am doing my own version of low carb/paleo type of diet and I'm pretty satisfied with that.
