the 5 o'clock hour

Tuesday, July 09, 2013

I'm having to make some adjustments this year to get in the intensity and mileage I want for my workouts. Mainly walking. My husband changed jobs this year and I have had to do a lot more juggling, accommodating the boy, still working my job, and more (as we all do). After much discussion and lamenting with the Walrus. He told me to stop over analyzing everything, stop over thinking everything, and spend more time DOING the things I'm lamenting about not doing. At first, he ticked me off. But then I decided maybe I should listen and DO for once instead of saying why it can't be done...shhh...don't tell him.

The big DUH.

So I did it. I got up at 5 this morning. I only got 30 minutes of walking in before he had to go to work but it sure gave me the push I needed to get my 10,000 steps today. Su-zah, I ended up with 13,600+ steps. Here's hoping tomorrow is as successful.

I'm always droning on about my beloved sunsets, often neglecting any kind of morning light. Although I didn't have much light this morning, it was different. It was also dense, muggy, and a bit warm with the slightest of occasional cool breezes. A nice change of pace, if I do say so myself.

I think it's uber-cool to be above AND below the clouds. This is the 5 o'clock hour. That's AM. I know, I can't believe it either. I was actually there.

I also met this little guy:

Then the boy and I got a short half mile doggie walk in. Finally, after the Walrus got home from work, I finished up to get my last 2400 steps. EXCEPT...I brought my smartphone to listen to an audiobook but I accidentally fired up the music player. Wow, one can really boogie to some tunes. I only embarrassed myself once, maybe 3 times because I couldn't hear the coming cars. The UPS guy gave me a light honk and a thumbs up. Good times, red cheeks. I also didn't realize that I got 5000+ steps on this outing instead of the 2400 steps I was headed out for. Double su-zah.

Funny enough, I haven't listened to tunes on the go since my Sony walkman in 1984, ahem...or so. More recently, I used to daydream about having an MP3 player to workout with. I even used to put together playlists for Yoga, running, and walking hoping one day to put them to good use. When I got my smartphone a couple of months ago, I synced up all my music, audiobooks, etc. Then I promptly forgot all about the music, playlists and all. So today, I enjoyed another serendipitous moment when I inadvertently fired up the music on my phone and didn't turn back.

Tonight I enjoyed the light...

The 8 o'clock hour. In the PM.

As I mentioned yesterday, this is all leading up to achieving my next fitbit badge of 30,000 steps in one day (eeeegad, what's after that?). {Thank you MOSTMOM1 for inspiring me to do so.} But then I realized that I forgot that the Walrus has to work Saturday. I'm still trying to figure a way to make it work this weekend though. Worse comes to worst, I do it Monday after dropping the boy off at day camp.

See you on the flipside. The flipside being the AM. Sigh.

It's bad when they're right, but occasionally it does happen, LOL!

Enjoy the mornings and your music....I myself like walking / running without it. I just either think things through, or get in the zone and barely notice when my time is up. This week in the mountains, it's been more scenery than thoughts or zoning though. It's been nice to have new and interesting places to walk / hike in.

We'll have to make an effort back home to get out of the rut and go to different places to walk / hike. But it's still hot there, sigh...I'll miss this weather (the cool, not the rain and floods).

I tend to get bored with my thoughts without music

5am is a great time to walk. But hard to roll out of bed with little sleep. Early mornings feel like so much magic. Beautiful pics!
