Mindful vacationing

My husband and I traveled to the US from Honduras on Friday, and as expected eating healthfully has been a challenge! Of course, travel days are always difficult as airport food leaves much to be desired. We left home at 6 am and arrived at our daughter's house about 11 pm. A fruit smoothie before we left home, a quick cup of coffee in the airport, then lunch/supper at the Houston airport. How quickly we forget how big the serving sizes are here! I did order a soft drink and then threw over half of it away since it was so large!

Yesterday Janna wanted to make really special food to welcome us...chocolate chip cookies (she remembers the days we couldn't get choc chips on the mission field!) coffee cake, sandwiches with white bread. She did ask me to help with menu making and grocery shopping, so the rest of the time should have healthier options. And, we won't be inundated with the "just arrived" specialness!

She and her husband have been walking 2 miles every evening and we plan to join them. Great for her as she prepares for "labor day" in the next week or two, and great for us too.

I am determined NOT to gain the normal 5 pounds or so from time in the US. I'm not really hoping to lose while here, since there is so much to celebrate and so many memories to make, so my July goals are to keep moving, make reasonable choices, and not gain any weight.

    Welcome back to the U.S.!
For us, visiting supporters and family ALWAYS seems to center around food...

It sounds like you're making excellent, doable goals for July!

So glad to see you posting from the US, Donna! It sounds as if you have a good plan for handling the excessive portions & kinds of food in these parts. How lovely that your daughter & son-in-law are walking regularly, so as you join them the exercise benefits will come with time for talking & catching up & enjoying the neighborhood together.

Many blessings as you all prepare to welcome the little one!
