Too amazing to not share

Pulling trout out of the lake, we noticed the young man next to us who at first seemed irritated with our success (found out later he had started at 5:30 am with no luck and we came down around 11:00 and began clearing out the lake). Overhearing him mention to my dh about his wife having had surgery, I felt that familiar nudge that the Holy Spirit was up to something. After going through all my scenarios, which included trying to convince dh to offer to pray for the man, I casually sauntered over, took a deep breathe and dove in (funny how hard this can be still sometimes after all the positive experiences I have had asking to pray for people). So I hummed and hawed, explained I had heard about his wife, and offered to pray with him for her. Well now it was his turn to take a few deep breaths and wonder how I was about to respond to his story. What I heard was truly amazing. Seems his wife had colon cancer (a long medical term he knew perfectly - we quickly learn the lingo when it is a family member). At age 23, she had intestines removed, run through the specialists and all they could offer in our state, and was looking into options out of state. Seems family members had experienced the same medical issues, and things weren't looking good. She was almost constantly sick and nothing was helping. This young bride decided to go with her dh and his friend for a day hunting trip out of town. They barely started out when she returned to their tent ill, encouraging them to go on without her. Three hours later, on their return, she told them an amazing story. Seems she got really sick, to the point she felt she was dying. She said she called out to God and His answer was to heal her. Her husband's response? No way. He had been through a few good days with her and figured this was just a temporary respite. When they got home, and she flushed her meds down the toilet, this was one unhappy husband. He figured he would be the one dealing with trying to help her the next day when she needed those meds. He tried to stop her but she would have none of it. That was two years ago. She has been fine ever since! I was so blessed hearing this story, I just had to share it.
By the way, I ended up asking Ivan (the young man), for him and his wife to keep me in prayer. I love how the Holy Spirit surprises me so often...
