I was hoping for an uneventful 4th.

Friday, July 05, 2013

The first half of the day was great. Everyone was quiet and I got to go out to the store alone.

After lunch was a different feeling though.

My son is a clutz. In his lifetime, he's managed to break his arm, split his lip and yesterday he managed to put a big gash into the top of his head.

Head wounds are never fun. They bleed. I'm still cleaning up blood form yesterday's incident. He's been told not to run in the house, does he listen? No.

Fortunately I know how to put pressure on a wound and by the time the police had shown up (we ended up calling 911) I had the blood slowed. I got to refuse ambulance service (I couldn't imagine how much higher my bill would be if we shipped him) and drive him to the ER.

When you go to an ER, bleeding goes first, heart attacks second. This is the first time we got to go right back. He had started to ooze again by the time we got up there.

When it comes to bodily fluids I get the blood and my husband gets the other stuff. We make a good team, had I not been there, I'd probably have had a husband on the floor too.

So now my son has stitches in his head. It was about 2.5 cm or 1 inch long. The more they cleaned it, the more I got grossed out and it takes a lot for me to get grossed out with wounds.

All in all, it was a pretty short ER visit, we were only there for about 3 hours and one baby (they have a fun little noise that goes off every time a baby is born, one time we got to listen to 6). He's feeling better, it was only a flesh wound. As soon as we got home, he was off and running again, we got to yell at him for running again...

Today's Holidays: Bikini Day, Work-a-Holic Day, P.T. Barnum's Birthday 1810, National Apple Turnover Day and National Graham Cracker Day.

Glad your son is okay. The sight of blood makes me queasy. In emoticon fact, my daughter had to yank a loose tooth yesterday and that about sent me over the edge! Happy belated 4th, may next year be less eventful! :)

Oh I forgot. Someone in my area had an ambulance ride and it cost $3000. Not sure what the distance was, but bill would put one into shock.

So your son doesn't 'run with scissors' but just plain runs all over...?

Not the best afternoon for you both. My DH is clutzy and careless
and every year, if not a few times a year, gets some kind of bloody
injury. So far nothing serious. He has thin blood and there is so much
of it. UGH. I don't do well with that. No nurses training for me. Ever.

May your 5th of July be uneventful!

I would have bolted at the sight of blood - can't handle that. We have the opposite arrangement at my house. Hubby can handle either but he gets blood by default.

Glad to hear your son's injury wasn't too serious.

I'm with your husband on this - don't do blood! Actually, come to think of it I don't do other bodily fluids either. emoticon
Glad he's OK and feels fit enough to be running around again.

Ouch, glad he is doing better. Your hubby sounds like mine, he would've been on the floor with the blood!! Have a great day :)

Kids do the darnedest things. Sounds like you handled it very well. Hope the rest of your week is quieter.

It will be easy to remember the date he needed stitches for a head gash. Yes, boys especially love running and seem to be the ones with more injuries.
One of the things I remember with vacations ( ya right ) staying in the hospital is counting how many babies were born each day---not much else to do there.
We had a quiet 4th here this year, stayed at home, BBQed for supper along with homemade potato salad, fruits and veggies. Before 10 went to the end of our block with lawn chairs and watched the fireworks from Richfield. Our secret is out,, years ago it was only some of us on the block that went down to watch---now there are lots of families there. All of a sudden it seems the place to go for the surrounding neighborhood, nice.
