4th Of July & Results (The Medical Kind)

Friday, July 05, 2013

First of all, I hope that you all had a lovely holiday! I got to sleep a little bit extra, which was much appreciated. My BF is pretty sick with some sort of summer cold so I made us soup for lunch. We drove out to see his parents and his dad made fresh farm bought corn, coal fire grilled wings (not fried at all!), and his mom made this awesome strawberry/cool whip dessert. No chips, dip, burgers or hotdogs for me and I was strangely AOK with that! His dad’s coal smoked wings are really something special. His parents have been trying to eat healthy as well and we all noted how much LESS we ate than the last time we had a dinner like this. I think we were all pretty proud of ourselves! We came home and watched a ton of fireworks from our deck. All in all a nice relaxing day!

I am working from home today. We’re having some server issues today (surprise!) so pretty much everyone is logging off early. It does NOT feel like a Friday to me I am all out of whack. I may head to the pool on my “lunch break” haha. I have a nice beach scented candle lit, a big glass of ice water, in comfy clothes. Ahhhh yes. I just need to stay OUT of the pantry!
I got the first of my two heart test results today. I love modern medicine don’t get me wrong, but the PROCESS around it sometimes drives me crazy! When my doctor said they were implementing this new online record/communication system, I thought it was awesome. They upload your results, it emails you, you know faster. BUT I can’t speak doctor! So I get this test result and start googling everything and convincing myself I’m in big trouble. The summary said “Normal - Fair” so I should just stick with that right? Nope – I am fixated on the fact that they found trace regurgitations in two of my valves. What does that mean?! I know what google says… oy. I am most interested in the results of the holter test so hopefully that will come through soon. I’m sure that I am FINE or they would have had me in a hospital or something by now… right?!

We have like 9 days until we leave for Mexico. Everything is happening so quickly! I am definitely heading out to buy bug spray and sunscreen (the two things people have recommended the most!) My poor BF is pretty sick, so I have been taking my vitamins and zinc spray religiously. I think we are in for another quiet weekend at home, which might be a great idea. Is it too early to start packing?!?

Anyways – that is all I have for now. I hope you all had a great fourth and have a great weekend as well!

I am glad you ate well! I really didn't eat that great on the 4th, but it wasn't horrible either. I would think if it were serious they'd have you in, but I'd probably still want to talk to the Dr.

The thing about doctors is, no news is good news. It's great that they have a system to allow you to see your results quicker, but I'm telling you from years of personal experience, you DON'T want them to call because then you know it's something (bad). So I would try not to worry about it too much.

Didn't know you were going to Mexico--that's so awesome! Can't wait to see pics :)

Just hang in there with the results, I'm sure it's nothing serious.
I usually start packing about 4-5 days before the trip, because in the next days I keep finding things that I had forgotten to pack...

    Have a great weekend!

Listen, don't worry about the heart thing - if the dr didn't call immediately and say come in, it isn't urgent. You'll talk to them next week, right? So don't worry about it, stop googling, and it sounds like something that maybe they'll watch and see if it gets worse.

IT ISN'T URGENT if they don't call you right away.

I recommend the off bug repellant fans. they work pretty great and you don't smell like spray and get all sticky. I used them last night for when we went to the park to see the fireworks- 1.5 hours early for a good spot and then they were 1 hour delayed so 2.5 hours out in the dark with thousands of other people, and no bug bites.

DO NOT GO TO WEB MD - it's like a choose your own adventure where the ending is always cancer!

Focus on the normal-fair portion of your result and don't be afraid to call the office and have them clarify the result. I like the idea of patients having access to results because they are theirs, but on the other hand it seems irresponsible because patients may not understand the report. I'm still sticking with nothing too out of the ordinary or you would already have been contacted.

Hope bf recovers quickly before this whirlwind vacay! Have a great weekend!
