Not MIA...Just Taking a Break

Yup, that's right. I need a break. I've been doing SparkPeople religiously for over two years (not missing a single day, unless Spark was down...and then I just entered stuff late) and initially I had some success. After an ankle injury, I just never really bounced back and I've been swinging in the same three-pound range for over a year now. I love the tracking features, but find that I am tracking and getting the same results almost daily, except with no actual results. SparkPeople for me became an all or nothing thing (I'm a type A/overachiever personality) and I killed myself some nights trying to get EVERYTHING in. The time I spend on SparkPeople is precious and could be spent doing other productive things (running, walking, lifting, sleeping).

So my change in routine is going to involve focusing on rehabbing my elbow and shoulders (PT does NOT believe that my shoulder pain is arthritis). I would like to (and will as I have a new gym membership) increase my fitness and more importantly get more that five hours of sleep at night.

What prompted this? I've kinda been knocking it around for a few months now. This past weekend, I went camping and completely blew off Spark (unintentionally) but what it resulted in was more sleep and more activity. On Sunday, my pedometer read 93,041 steps! I totally rocked...however my feet were killing me on Monday. LOL
No offense, but I really didn't miss SparkPeople. I did miss checking in with my friends, but I had a good ballpark idea where I was with my calories and I'm certain I blew fitness out of the water.

This may not be forever, as I will occasionally want to check in with my friends (love ya!), but the rest of Spark won't be the daily chore that it has been. I don't mean this in a derogatory way, SparkPeople has brought me so far in understanding myself, my diet and my activity and for that I am grateful. Now, if I find myself straying, I will return to tracking daily, but for now, this is what I feel I need to do. Please understand.

    I did pretty much the same thing. Of course when I took a break from spark it didn't go so well for me. But it looks like it's working for you so I say go for it! To be honest I think once you track for a while you get a pretty good idea of what you should and shouldn't eat and how much. I missed my spark friends most of all while I was sort of breaking. Drop in a say hi once in a while and good luck to you!

    Sometimes we just need to do what is best for ourselves and not worry to much about others. No one else is going to do what is best for us, right?

    I've been taking a break as well so I completely understand. You have to do what works for you! Just know you will be missed! Wishing you the best and keep us posted when you can on how you are doing!!!
