Raynaud's at bay!
Tuesday, July 02, 2013
I don't know if it's the increased weight gain, the presence of two little extra bodies inside me keeping me warmer, or some combination...but my Raynaud's is bothering me SO much less these days. I haven't needed gloves at the grocery store in a long time!! And today, I went out for a walk and got poured on and my clothes were soaked...and I felt just fine! Granted, it was like 80 degrees at the time. But still. There was a time when I still would have been a bit uncomfortably chilly in any rain, no matter the air temperature.
I think it's mainly due to this increase in body insulation I've developed over the last few months. I still haven't actually gained that much weight for a twin pregnancy, but I'm somewhere around 20-23 pounds heavier than I was this past winter when I was just absolutely miserably cold all day long, even in my own heated home. Having unhealthfully low body fat was great during the summer when I'd barely break a sweat in triple digit heat, but it was killing me during the cold months.
So yay for being able to enjoy running around in the rain again! I used to LOVE playing in rainstorms, and then couldn't once the Raynaud's really hit me and my extremities kept going numb at the slightest hint of coolness....but now I can again! I'm going to call that a NSV of sorts. The number on the scale doesn't tell me how healthy my body is; my body does that for me! And when it no longer threatens to shut down my fingers when washing my hands or chopping vegetables cold from the fridge or shopping in grocery stores, I think my body telling me that it's happier and feeling more in balance now. :)
