Setting goals to stick to

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

So, I've been thinking about what I ought to do to keep myself from thinking 'I'll do that later, it's okay' and then never doing it.

I think I need to create a check list to start checking off daily.

I bought a jump rope the other day so I can start skipping again, but I'm apprehensive to start as I had torn the interior collateral ligament in my knee 5 weeks ago, and this week is the first week I've been without any bandaging or splint on my leg. I was in a full leg splint for 2 weeks, and then I moved to soft bandage for 2 weeks, and this week, I'm challenging myself to go a week without any form of support. From Saturday until Tuesday I've had no problems, although, after walking 6km yesterday, my knee hurt to straighten as I laid in bed last night. I am hoping it's just the fact that I was stretching the ligaments around the knee that was causing the pain.

I really want to build myself up to jumping rope for 30mins a day, as it used to work for me when I was in New Zealand.

I also want to be able to get a 30min walk in at least 4 days a week.

I've got WiiFit plus as well, and want to be able to find some time every day to do 30mins exercise with that as well.

I fall into the trap of... I can do it later, and later never comes. I need a kick in the butt to do it, and I've gotta be the one to do so.

My goals for this week: - spend 10 mins each day jumping rope (weather and space permitting)
- Do Wiifit Plus for minimum 30mins daily
- Try to encourage my husband to get out for a 30min walk with me 4 days this week.

I'm going to try and blog my progress each day and see if I can achieve these 3 goals by making myself publicly accountable.

As they say here in Korea: FIGHTING!

    Heya gorgeous.

    I don't want to be a downer, I sowwy.

But Jumping rope is a high impact sport, (that doesn't mean difficulty, it means the amount of wear and tear on joints) and with you just getting the support off I'm really scared for your knee. Would you consider just doing your walking goal for at least one week to build up muscle before you start into jumping. Also I have lots and lots of good ankle stretches and workouts that I can give you from physical therapy that will help you build up, and we can search for others that will help your knee. It's just the time that I went straight back into exercise I seriously regretted it, and it put me back months on my pt and I don't want that to happen to you.

Thanks Jo88Bako. I hope I can stick to it... got my 30min walk in today, sadly it's raining outside so can't do the jump rope. Will get the Wiifit plus stuff done today too.. and then I can log it all and feel almost proud of myself.
