Yeah baby! This 258 lbs 5'10" woman is going to be a runner!

Have you ever tried to push 258 lbs off the ground? Let me tell you, it's not an easy task. My hip flexors are dying by the time we're done jogging.

That's some serious motivation to drop the weight. I want running to be fun.

I've always had the desire to run. When I have excess energy (which happens all the time), when I'm down, when I'm up, when I'm angry.. I get the urge to run. If I actually go out and do it in about 30 seconds I remember I'm out of shape and have asthma and go home.

Until now.

I've looked several times at the C25K program (couch to 5K) and even tried it once a year or two ago. I didn't have the drive then like I do now.

What's different now?

I'm already working out (Can't I get a woot woot for Turbo Jam?!), I'm already eating healthier, but what's the big difference? I found a 5K where you're chased by Zombies.

Yes, Zombies.

Real ones? No, that's silly. But close enough. :)

It's called Run For Your Lives and it's coming to AZ in November! My husband and I are doing this one together. Kids can't run. :-/

My 9 y/o son is training with me and I was looking for a run he can do with me that we'd both really enjoy and found The Neon Splash Dash! This one isn't until April of 2014 but that's ok. I'm going to keep looking for new ones coming to AZ.

So the first day of C25K I was dying! My legs hurt for 2 days afterwards! The only reason I didn't give up during the training was because my son was jogging with me and he wanted to give up and I couldn't let him think that's ok. So we did it. He was so proud of himself - the best feeling in the world for a mama to see! We run every other day and the second day was a little easier and I wasn't sore afterwards. More importantly my son wakes up and asks if we're running every day. :) Love it! Out of 7 children he's the only one that's a little chubby so this is very important to me to get him healthy.

This is such a positive experience! I'm not dreading the running and I feel amazing afterwards and my son is doing this with me and we're getting some great bonding time together. Plus, my husband is going to be doing it with us! Even better! I love this being a family journey.
