Rt. 66 Progress

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Well, another week has gone by and I'm updating my progress along Rt. 66. There's no doubt that I am well out of Chicago and making my south. When I pull up pictures from Google that are on my path you can tell the farmland is really kicking in. Lots of fields running along side of I-55. Rt. 66 tends to follow along the interstate pretty well although most of this weeks journey has been on the frontage road. I'm not quite to Odell, Il, maybe a mile or two out of town. The picture is an old Standard gas station in Odell from the 1930's. It's nice that it has been restored and is now a historic site. I expect to see a lot of old gas stations along the way, but most will be abandoned and falling apart.

Definitely stop in St Louis to see Chain of Rocks. We were there last summer and had a blast on the bridge. Arcadia, OK and the giant pop bottle are also a must see! And well, I live 2 blocks north if Rt 66 in New Mexico. I love teh Mother Road, but I'm biased!
