June 25th - TED talk about obesity / diabetes

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

Today I went walking in the park for an hour and it made me feel good. Relaxed. I've been having a lot of stress/depressive thoughts lately and needed a good outlet... exercise outdoors helps, and so does good food.

Breakfast: egg and veggie omelet, orange, strawberries, & 1 piece of bacon.
Lunch: grilled chicken on mixed greens salad, onion, carrot, avocado, and homemade tahini goddess dressing. Vanilla almond milk.
Dinner: Kimchi bacon brussels with steamed cod. Iced Green Tea.
Snacks: 2 organic fruit lollipops, 1 pluot and 1 banana.

Tahini Goddess Dressing: 2 tbsp tahini, juice of 2 medium lemons, 1 clove garlic, 1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley, 1/4 cup fresh chopped chives, 2-3 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp tamari, and 1 tbsp honey. Salt and pepper to taste.. Pulse all ingredients in a mini blender or food processor. It makes about a cup, which I saved in the fridge for salads later in the week.

It takes some time to whip up a salad dressing from scratch and to season and grill the chicken each week (~30 min), but when it's done and in the fridge, I can just toss it together with greens for a quick lunch or dinner, no thinking required. Totally worth it :) plus, no soybean oil.

Check out this TED Talk about obesity and diabetes:

This doctor has the right of it... It's so powerful to hear a medical doctor repent for blaming (and shaming) his overweight patients for a phenomenon he later realized was more complex than the current medical protocols would have us believe.

I was so glad to find your blog... It is common sense and good information. I was recently diagnosed with Type 1 and at first denied it but a few weeks later came to my senses and began the journey of learning all I can about this disease and how to control it. I am on both Humma Log and Lantus . I watch carbs ,calories and protein/fats..very carefully and I can see some improvemen but still remain in the 190- 200 bracket most of the time. My biggest problem is that I will follow a strick rutine all day but around 9:00 pm I find my self binging.. Almost like a kid rebelling :) I know this is hurting me but I don't know how to control it.. If any one has been there or has suggestions they would be welcomed.. BTW I do have a great amount of willpower (quit smoking cold turkey after 25 yrs, quick drinking all together after 10 years not an alcholic just any drinking. I have gained over 40 lbs in as many months and I need to stop what ever I am doing wrong.. Any one have any suggestions? emoticon

Very compelling TED Talk... I cried at the end when he broke down. This is def. why I feel like in the end the best solution for everyone health wise whether they are obese or of a normal weight is clean eating... getting processed junk out of the diet and eating healthy whole grains/lentils, lean meat, fruits, vegetables and dairy back in to our diet. If we stop bumping our leg into the coffee table (eating processed foods) the bruise (or obesity and/or other disease) will almost completely (not entirely) eradicate from society

Big talk in the Medical World today as to how this horrific disease as spiraled out of control. Insulin Resistance levels in thin people are also high . Unfortunate how this has been missed all these years. For me it boils down to the Enzymes in our digestive system that due to processed food have lost there place in function. Again this is proven by many mentioned in the book written by Ty Bollinger - Cancer ( get outside the box) same thing as diabetes . We must learn the functions of our Metabolic System to over come !! Wonderful information - Thank - you for sharing - Glad you had the opportunity to walk! Hugs K emoticon
