June 23~Time Is Flying By

Sunday, June 23, 2013

It is already June 23 and I don't know where the month has gone! I lost a whole week to being sick. Sore throat, earache and toothache. It sucked bad. I think that is what has thrown me off. Even with being sick, it has been a good month. We are finally caught up on our bills post Rock On The Range ( a weekend long concert in Columbus, OH). Shane goes every year, but never plans on the financial impact so we struggle for about a month after. Still, he has a lot of fun. I choose not to go. It's the biggest rock concert in the US. I don't deal particularly well with large crowds. It's also not my preferred genre of music. Although I really would have liked to seen Halestorm and Volbeat.
I also reconnected with a friend from high school! I found her on Facebook. I've been looking for years. Facebook, Myspace (back in the day), Twitter...I checked them all. I ended up lucking out. I saw her comment on a mutual friend's post. It's crazy. We were nearly inseparable my senior year. My BFF was a year ahead of me so my senior year I didn't really have anyone to hang out with. Kelly had just transferred and people stayed away from her because she was the only "goth" kid there. So naturally, hating the majority of my schoolmates, we came together through our friend Kristina. They are a few years younger, so after I graduated and got a job, they were still in school. I worked 2nd shift so I ended up losing touch with both Kelly and Kristina. That was still my favorite year of high school. We were like the Three Musketeers. I have run into Kelly a few times over the years. We worked at the same place for a bit, but then I had some family issues and ended up fired. I ran into her at the mall a few years after that and got her number with the promise of catching up, but my ex was with me and deleted her number later that night. There is a reason why he is my ex! But I think it's finally time for us to come back together. We plan on having a play date for the kids sometime in the next week or so. She has a little girl that is one day younger than Elora! And she named her a name we had considered for Elora. How crazy is that?
Speaking of Elora, her words have increased so much over the last few weeks. Her vocabulary has easily tripled from 18 months to 19 months. My favorite is when I catch her doing something she isn't supposed to. She is really sneaky and waits for Sarane to throw a diva tantrum. While I'm busy with Sarane, Elora quietly sneaks to do whatever it is she isn't supposed to. So when I see her doing it, she looks at me very innocently and asks "What?". And Sarane, wow. She has come a long way with potty training. She still refuses to go #2 in the potty, but she hasn't peed her pants in a few weeks. We are also working on her going to bed by herself. She is doing better than I expected with that. It's true what they say. When you are a kid, time stands still. You can't wait to grow up but it takes forever. But when you become the parent, you are holding this tiny little baby that needs you for everything. Then you blink and that baby is a toddler. Talking and dancing and playing around. Then you blink again and there are 2 running around playing. It's surreal sometimes.

I'm sorry to hear you were sick this month, but it sounds like you're still having a good month overall. I'm glad you managed to reconnect with your high school friend. That is definitely one of the wonders of the internet (although on the negative side, I've had a few people find me who I wish hadn't but that's another story...)

And it sounds like your little girls are doing amazing as well! They seem so adorable! Enjoy these moments while they last, as they are truly precious!
