Summertime, setting a goal for July.

It's official, it's summer. June is almost gone and I'm working away at my goals.

I've really made some gains on changing the three habits I went after this month. I took advice from the comments I got on eating while cooking, eating when stressed and eating impulsively. I'll keep working on these.

I also gave up coffee, which helped me cut back on sugar. I think I was on the eat sugar or drink coffee to get energy, and now I'm more aware of what foods give me energy and what foods just take a lot of time to digest. I may take coffee back up in the fall, but it's been good to take a break.

One of the things I discovered that really drains me is alcohol. I've been a one beer or one glass of wine on the weekends person, and it turns out this habit leaves me tired the next day. So I'm taking a break from that.

Giving these up has made me realize that I actually do have some self discipline.

So JULY is going to be my month to give up sugar (as much as I can). Most of my impulsive eating is for something with sugar, so this change will help that habit too.

    Great job, I should give up coffee, not for the sugar, but because I use so much creamer! I use the powdered low fat, but I use sooooo much. It'd really be better if I gave it up. I get headache from not drinking it, so I'll have to do an every other day at first. Way to go!

    Good luck! I have just made some big sugar/meal plan changes (though still have honey in my chai). I find that I can do these changes for a couple of weeks and feel good about them, then the work cuts in as my old habits realise they're not on holiday but fired from their jobs as drivers of my bus! Boy they kick up a storm. I am learning to pre-empt them by writing down the thoughts, feelings, sensations I think I might expect to experience when I hit that storm. By 'expecting' them I feel more prepared to just keep on going...

    Indian paintbrush! Good for you not only giving these up, but great awareness knowing what they do to you! Summer, it just doesn't feel like summer yet. But it is. How about some hikes?

    Good for you for giving up coffee! As you said it's a good test of your self-control, which can help in many other ways. I'm a tea drinker and find that if I don't have a cup I feel loggy and tired. I also drink diet coke from time to time and occasionally will have a cup of coffee or a cappuccino but I don't need these. I don't use sweetener in my tea or hot coffee but do use splenda in my cappuccino. As for alcohol I've just started having a glass of wine (4 or 5 ounces only) in the evening and so far it's fine. I don't feel high and it may be helping me sleep better, which is strange. Again, good for you!!!!
