Wellness via coconut oil and sleep :)

Saturday, June 22, 2013

I realize I have not been well in over a week and it has really taken a toll! I left work 2 Wednesday's ago because I was nauseas, spent the rest of the week/weekend with sick children, had an awful traumatic day Monday (with foster children) and ended up sick again...

But now I am back to feeling well. I slept a solid full night, was able to pick up my Azure order this week so lots of healthy good foods in the house, and have been able to get some light exercise in.

I have struggled with keeping calories to at least 1200. If I was hungry it would be easier but I'm not hungry due to high fat/high protein combos. I did begin the coconut shakes again as the coconut oil and milk adds good calories and satiates me for hours. A shake in the morning, salad and chicken at lunch and by dinnertime, I'm not too hungry at all. I have been hitting 1200 though! WooHoo!

Lost 2 pounds last week and almost 2 the week before. I stepped on my scale this morning even though official weigh in isn't til Wednesday and I am down another 2 pounds 3 ounces! I completely lean on the coconut for that beautiful loss!

Looking forward to a day at the river with all the kids, will exercise before we go as I am sure I will be far too worn out later to exercise! Feels good to be in the land of the living again!

This is very interesting - I had started researching coconut oil awhile back, but then somehow got off track. I researching it's benefits for people with Alzheimer's which my Mother has. I will definetly try this shake - do you put it all in a blender & mix together?

I can certainly share my coconut smoothie recipe, I will tell you that I got it from "organic mama"s website. She based her recipe off of research from several places..

    1) it is higher calorie - if you are following more of a Weston price or whole foods or primal diet, then this won't bother you (comes out around 500 calories) however if your following standard diet, this may worry you.

    2) This will keep you full hours... if I have one in the morning, I drink it around 630 am... im not even remotely hungry until around 3ish..

    3) it has a raw egg. You could keep that out but the protein really helps. I would NOT use a raw egg from the grocery store but if you have local farm eggs then I would absolutely use them. I can't taste or feel any texture in it.

    4) this is a big one... if you are NOT used to a lot of coconut oil or milk then please begin with 1/4 the amounts. This can make your stomach hurt until you work up to it. There are a lot of reasons people say... one of the biggest beliefs is because Coconut oil attacks yeast... therefore causing the irritable belly and..er.. bathroom trips... so GO LIGHT! You will appreciate that I told you that lol

You can google "organic mama coconut smoothie" and read about a lot of the reasons, her recipe is slightly different then mine. I reduced the coconut milk because my belly can't handle 8 oz.

I will say that from my own personal experience as well as many I know, you will actually feel a flushed feeling... I routinely drop weight quickly when incorporating coconut oil into my diet, you can almost "feel" it burning fat. Lots of studies will back that up (check out Mercola) but again... all are against the grain of "traditional" diets ...

4 oz coconut milk (NOT the carton, but from the can. I use Native Forest brand because the cans are BPA free, but any canned milk would work)
    1 frozen banana
1 tbsp. coconut oil ( I use Nutiva, you can get it on amazon or azure, don't use the junk on the shelves at the supermarket though)
    1/4 cup berries
    1-2 raw eggs

I have been hearing more about coconut oil lately. I am thinking of giving it a shot. I do not use butter very much, I mean a small container could last me several months. I guess I would have to do the shake route.
I am like you, when I eat high protein, the hunger seems to be at bay.

I use the Organic Nutiva brand, so far its what I love the best. I use organic pastured butter as well but try to make sure I get coconut oil into my diet every day. I know for me it helps so much with weight loss and overall energy and wellness.

Hi, your coconut oil title caught my attention. :) I started using coconut oil in place of butter 2 weeks ago. I really feel it has helped me to lose 5 lbs. already. There are so many good uses for coconut oil. I use the raw certified organic extra virgin coconut oil by Artisana. Good stuff!

Glad you feel better. Keep up the wonderful work you're doing. By the way, you mentioned foster kids. God bless you for helping those children!!!
